Can you name all the movie dwarves?

I admit I had to properly sit down and learn to assign a name to each movie dwarf, I still get Dori, Nori and Ori mixed up sometimes I wonder how a causal movie goer will react to Gandalf naming all the dwarves?

I don't think the general audience will ever be able to name all the Dwarves correctly!

Though, that's the benefit of giving them all distinctive looks and personalities, so people might do. Plus, if DOS starts with Beorn, then they are effectively re-introduced after a year's gap. Thorin, Balin, Gloin, Fili and Kili will be easily recognised. Perhaps people will also remember Dwalin and Bombur. But there's also Dain, Thrain, Thror, and any other Dwarves they might show!

I haven't tried but I also don't keep track of them or keep them straight very well. I'm not too worried about it. I'm a visual person and until get a good sense of personalities (and they already seem to be fixing personalities onto the characters, even in still promotional photos), I won't keep them straight. I am fairly confident that watching the movies will fix them in my brain well enough. I'm not one to do homework when I don't have to. And I am always keen on letting movies work their magic rather organically. If I make it into 'work', I'll approach the movie like some kind of assignment I've studied for.

Also including actor name so I can remember that as well! I can name each movie dwarf by now, but I still struggle with some of the actors :/

and from the trailer I think Bofur will be quite high on memorable list as well. I wonder how will that work in the movie itself though ? Will Bilbo know their names straight away or will he be confused and call them "hey you" basically ? Or maybe the movie will ignore it completely.

Think I can list the entire cast as well (company plus all the other characters cast so far). I don't know, I've always been good with remembering names. Especially actors.

As Bilbo becomes more acquainted with each of the company, he should start being accepted more and more. This is further added upon each time he rescues them. I expect he'll be confused to start off with. And it might be quite entertaining. Not only does Bilbo have to learn their names, but so does the audience. I'd hope that Bilbo would know their names by Rivendell though- spending 24 hours a day with 13 people, you would soon learn their names.

The fact that I usually read The Hobbit every year or two helps. That, and a group of friends and I who have a Tolkien reading group are currently discussing The Hobbit. Plus, posting news on the Home Page and helping develop the actor/character bios for the site also helped. Though, I must admit, I often have to count on my fingers to get all 13 in one go.

I can name all the dwarves in the company. I cannot, however, put each name with each face in the movie. And I definitely do not know each of the actor's names.

I recently just learned which one is Fili and which one if Kili, but I'm still having problems with Nori and Dori. Nori has grey hair and Dori has the fancy hair? And one of them is the strongest?

was trying to let us in on the joke by having their names so similar? he certainly doesn't do anything like that in LOTR. Unless you count the Bakshi version where they rename Saruman to Aruman...

And Tolkien was more than likely inspired by the Middle Ages, where the names of fathers, brothers and sons shared similarities.

They always do things in pairs To be honest I get rather annoyed when reading the book. If Fili did something then Kili would do the same, if Dori started saying something Nori would finish his sentence. I know this was probably done to not confuse the reader, but still. I really hope they mix it up a bit more in the movies.

it could be endearing, and all the more tragic when they ummm kick the bucket, so to speak. I don't see the same kind of aesthetic brotherly/cousinly affectations with the other triplets or pairs.

But I don't want all the different pairs of characters to act as one like in the book. Though I doubt that will happen.
