Not the least because of his beautiful discourse with Andreth in the Athrabeth. He's wise and courageous and selfless. A great character.

Feanor is my least favorite. He was all the things that Finrod is not (well, I guess he was courageous), and he brought most of his troubles on himself.

Most of them are not main characters, so they're mostly glossed over by Tolkien. Nothing wrong with that, but it does make it hard to remember them all.

He did create the Silmarils though. And whatever repercussions that later had, it was originally done for good intent. And I wouldn't mind looking upon them!

I was expecting you to come back a list of all the bad deeds Feanor had done, and how the Silmarils utterly ruined everything. I'm glad I don't have to justify that!

But really, there's nothing wrong with making the Silmarils, but everything that happened afterward is his fault!!

I should have allowed multiple answers. I had the hardest time choosing between the three firstborn grandsons, but my vote went to Maedhros. Sure he jumped to take the Oath but he stood aside at the burning, tried to make peace with the people of Fingolfin, searched for Elured and Elurin though in vain, and repented of his evil deeds. I just hope he gained pardon from the Valar. And although I can't say I like ALL of them, I like Feanor too. Although he may be responsible for a lot of the disasters in Beleriand, he's still the greatest Elf that ever lived!

That's cruel! It is hard to pick but one. I'll go with Finarfin. For he is wise not to have meddle in this Jewel's war against Morgoth which has only brought ruin to their kindred. The choice of turning back and humble himself so to finally stay in Valinor was a very good choice any Elf rebelling could have done when we know how it resulted.

The consummate warrior king, he relentlessly attacked Angband for many, many years, culminating in his desperate confrontation with Morgoth at the Gates of Angband. Wounding Morgoth several times but unable to kill him, he went down fighting, giving Morgoth a limp by stabbing him in the foot before dying. The image of his ferocious ride to Angband for this final battle being compared to Orome must have struck fear into the hearts of most inhabitants of Beleriand. I would love to see this incorporated into a film, but doubt it ever will be.
