This is such a gorgeous shot. The reflections in the water, the design of the bridge, the angle...

Perhaps its the super-clarity, but there's something Disney-esque about this shot. Very different from anything we saw in LOTR... Ah well. Still over-heating with excitement about the trailer tomorrow morning! Hilarious, though, that we live in a day and age where preview pictures of trailers are released in advance to whet our appetite over the course of one day.

This has to be one of the new areas of Rivendell that PJ has spoken of - and looks fantastic. side note: I'm glad the trailer will be up in a decent time for us Europeans!
All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost, The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

Love the composition, the colors, the angle. Makes Rivendell/arriving there feel unique, and not merely a rerun of what we saw in LOTR. Do you think this is the extra content PJ mentioned in his announcement video? Will there be more screencaps? Or a vlog? Or is this it?

It's great taking the beauty from the books, mixed with our imagination, and then coming to life. It makes me so happy.

... if so, it'd be poor fare, but PJ has never messed with us fans like that, so I'm expecting something other than trailer screencaps

Than the teaser trailer. That was very crisp and the colors were very bright as well. I honestly don't see a difference. I think it looks gorgeous.

I think the clarity works really, really well for Rivendell. The colors pop beautifully.

Depth of Field is always problem so now I'm..personally Convinced 48FPS solved any lasting issues. Hold on to your Hats The Hobbit is Coming Soon Bomby

Though I have nothing but love for Lewis' books. This looks like a very fantastical shot, you're right, but that's the impression I always got from Rivendell, so it seems fitting to be smooth, sharp, and cleanly. And LOTR had its fair share of stylistic camerawork, in my opinion, so it doesn't seem far off. I see where you're coming from, but I think it's a good picture, and still retains realism despite its fantastic feeling.

I think part of my sinking feeling has to do with recently-stirred memories of the Star Wars experience. The original trilogy had an edge of realism and grittiness. The prequels were as smooth, and as sterile, as toothpaste. I don't want a toothpaste Middle Earth...

I know your concern. I honestly have a little bit of that myself. Luckily PJ likes sets and locations a lot more than George Lucas. Part of the problem with the Star Wars prequels was a gross overuse of green screens and CGI. On the other hand, it's been a decade since LOTR, and PJ, whether he (or we) like it or not, has changed somewhat as a filmmaker. I still have hope though.
