Found this on the Swedish movie site MovieZine (it's my own homemade translation, so please don't be to hard on me about grammar, spelling and so forth):
Persbrandt is going back for more The Hobbit
Meanwhile, the studio has restricted him from talking about Peter Jackson's movies.
When Peter Jackson returns to Middle Earth approximately a decade after Lord of the Rings, our very own Mikael Persbrandt is onboard to play Beorn. Recently, the two movies became three and several of the actors are being called back for reshoots. Persbrandt is among those:
- I'm going back to New Zealand to shoot more scenes, that's already been decided, he tells MovieZine.se.
IMDb has now listed Persbrandt as participating in all the three movies. The actor doesn't know yet if the extra movie involves a bigger role and more Beorn on the big screen, or if it's just pickup shoots that lies ahead.
- I don't really know what it means. They have to cut somewhere to make number one, two and three. They've already got a lot of material. But I'm sure it's go to be pretty d**n good, he says.
Other than that, it's hard to make Mikael Persbrandt say anything else about the trilogy. The studio has restricted everyone from talking before the first movie has its premiere in December.
- It's not that I don't want to talk, I'm not allowed to. You'll have to wait until the premiere.
The character Beorn, portraied by Mikael Persbrandt in Peter Jackson's trilogy about The Hobbit, is a man who can turn himself into a bear. He's on the good side, and on the first official picture of Beorn you can see him next to Ian McKellen's Gandalf.
Now now Bill, you swore this was a battle between warriors, not a bunch of miss nancies, so warriors is what I brought

Well, we already knew that they were going to film more scenes for the BO5A before the third film was announced. I presume this is what he still has to film next year?
Not sure what else they could film with him, since they already have Beorn's House in the can if it's going to be in An Unexpected Journey.

It occurred to me that Beorn might be recruited for the assault on Dol Guldur, which would explain an expanded role in the second film.
The trouble with all these wizards and elf lords is they are less easy for the audience to identify with than a mortal.
A Far Dragon is the best kind...

Radagast would need to die at Dol Guldur. We can't have a major battle at Dol Guldur with everyone walking away injury free. Terribly boring otherwise.

We already know that the production team think that Radagast is going to be one of the most popular characters in this trilogy. He's a new Middle-earth wizard, that is extraordinarily different to Gandalf and Saruman. One way to boost his popularity is by making the audience love him. That way, when he is unexpectedly killed off at Dol Guldur, people are going to be shocked. For it to work successfully, you would (ideally) kill him off in film 3, so that the audience had enough time to become sympathetic over the character - it would need a strong emotional impact for it to work (otherwise it would be a pointless death). However, the deaths of film 3 should be reserved for Thorin, and Fili and Kili. If Radagast was killed in film 1, would anyone care? Probably not - people would think he's pretty useless. Killing him off in film 2 might be better.
At the same time, having Radagast just leave would also be dramatic. Refusing to to help in the rest of the War of the Ring would match Tolkien's character excellently.
No, he doesn't have to die. But I don't think PJ can resist it.

he isn't really mortal to begin with. The death of the mortal body of an immortal spirit who could be sent back at any time doesn't have a great deal of impact, does it?
Tauriel is a much better candidate to be Jossed.
Or just kill of a different pair of supporting dwarves, just to keep people guessing.

... trying to manage spoilers is like fighting a really vague battle, but I think when it comes to mentioning character deaths, the lines tend to become ever so slightly clearer

It's the same for any film adaptation though - a book-to-film adaptation always has to loose a character (or two ... or three ...) or a storyline.

...that they've decided to include for the three-film cut.
I'm really hoping to get a glimpse of the Bear Moot: the shot of Gandalf standing before Beorn in his bear form (which never happens in the book) gives me hope.
And, if there aren't ponies and dogs serving the company dinner, I'll be pretty disappointed.
