My Top 5 Wish List for "The Hobbit" 5. Legolas will surf down Smaug's neck 4. Bilbo will be revealed to a Robot 3. Naked PJ cameo as Ghan-Buri-Ghan 2. Use of not only 3D, but smell-o-vision, plus the inclusion of axes coming out of the seats and poking the audience when appropriate 1. Not only keep the claim that Thorin & Co. ran amok in Mirkwood "molesting people", but depict said incident in vivid detail!!!!!

- I'll just feed this into my English to bullshine translator... waits for the lights to blink... beep.. here we are - Opening in the summer will maximise playability.. translates to... 'We can garner yet more dosh'. Well, there you go - what can't speak can't lie. (though that old saw seems to apply to Hollywood suits, too).

Is it bad to hope for the film to be delayed, just so it's on at Christmas?

I'm also glad I don't have to wait a year in between the 2nd and 3rd movies.

was kind of hoping for The Battle of Five Armies for film 3 but, then, this remains Bilbo's tale after all.

You might as well name the last movie "The War Bit" as "The Battle of Five Armies". I am hoping that the last movie is about more than the battle.

who was impatient throughout the release of the trilogy, I can say that time has taught me not to be so hasty. We face many years ahead when the release of 'The Hobbit' films will be but a memory. I honestly don't know why anybody is in a great hurry to blaze through this wonderful experience we're all about to have.

Am I the only one who thinks Peter Jackson has something up his sleeve? Such as nodding, wide-eyed, to WB suit and agreeing, "Yes, yes, yes" to the Summer Tentpole release, but having scored his victory in getting his 3 months+ of additional shooting, will find a way to, er, extend that post-production period via delays, so that the studio will have no choice but to move the last film's release to Dec? Having gotten your goal, only a fool would argue at that stage.... And having the filming take place AFTER the first film's release when its made a bazillion $ and (maybe?) gotten some Oscar nods, even in the technicals (which HP never got in 10 yrs...) thus sending WB the message that this deserves to be treated as more than a HP-style franchise (so far my nightmares ae coming true, and all indications are that for WB to them this not Tolkien but nothing more than the latest Franchise MUCH different than New Line's respectful treatment of LOTR)....well, by that point a mollified WB will be much less upset at Peter when he drops this bombshell on them. THEN they'll open their eyes and see that a Dec release for TABA (LOVE these acronyms!) relally is the best choice. And if they argue, he could just remind them, "well, Titanic was supposed to come out in July too." Let's hope this pans out this way. At this point, this whole saga has had so many twists and turns, I do believe this scenario is remotely possible. It all depends on the critical reception Dec 14th or just before. Gadzooks, the nerves....only 3 1/2 more months until we find out The Verdict. Initial verdict means a lot. At this stage, some in the industry are taking a much less sympathetic view of Peter b/c of the 48fps thing and expanding to trilogy....there's a lot of skepticm and GL's name has been thrown around. Everything could either move forward like LOTR...or not.

Especially if Peter Jackson asks for more time. At this point the summer release of the 3rd film sounds like an ideal goal for their tentpole plans. But since those plans constantly shift and change, I too wouldn't be surprised to see the 3rd movie moved back to the holidays. Like you and many others have said, it will probably depend on the success of the previous 2. If critics and audiences love the movies, then I could see it being moved closer to awards season but if the schedule is thin and they are lacking a big draw, it very well may come in the summer time. No matter what time of year, I want to see them but there is definitely a nostalgic connection to seeing them around the holidays. I think I associate the experience with cold weather, snow, and all the wintery things (hot mugs of tea, sweaters, getting warm by a fire etc.)

I want to see the conclusion of the Hobbit films before I die. Summer 2014 sounds better than Christmas to me! Also, there's no ironclad rule that a summer release can't be an Oscar contender.

IMO, given how many years I've been anxiously waiting for this to happen, the elusive green light and all, 5 months is nothing... if it's something I've learned while anticipating PJ's(or before that, GDT's) Hobbit, it's patience.
The greatest adventure is what lies ahead.

*cue chorus of gloomy "Aye"s...*
Silverlode "Of all faces those of our familiares are the ones both most difficult to play fantastic tricks with, and most difficult really to see with fresh attention. They have become like the things which once attracted us by their glitter, or their colour, or their shape, and we laid hands on them, and then locked them in our hoard, acquired them, and acquiring ceased to look at them. Creative fantasy, because it is mainly trying to do something else [make something new], may open your hoard and let all the locked things fly away like cage-birds. The gems all turn into flowers or flames, and you will be warned that all you had (or knew) was dangerous and potent, not really effectively chained, free and wild; no more yours than they were you." -On Fairy Stories

That's how my 8th grade teacher pronounced it when I was introduced to The Hobbit, so that's how it imprinted on me. Regardless of how Professor Tolkien (by the way, is that Toll-keen or Toll-kin?) pronounced it.
