What's even funnier, "dos" is Spanish for "two".

Coincidence?

But also at the end of ROTK, one of Bilbo's original titles for his journal was "My Unexpected Journey".

Understood now - though still not sure how one would spell it phonetically. Sounds more accurate than Smorg. Does anyone else say a word too many times and it just sound weird after a while? Well, I've said Smaug too much today - it just sounds weird now.

All three titles work great to me. They feel right and tell you what's going to happen. They're also similar to how the titles for lotr were done in brook/movies. The titles just feel like middle-earth and I can wait to go back into the movie verse while I'm reading the books again. :)

"Veronika Kwan Vandenberg, President of International Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures, added, “The Hobbit: There and Back Again” will be an action spectacle and an emotional conclusion for this already much-anticipated trilogy.'" I thought pJ's films wern't supposed to be 'action movies' ? *BTW - unless I'm going mad, this quote was in the piece linked to in the OP. But now I can't find it. The bit i've cut and pasted from is from another website, here - http://nukethefridge.com/2012/08/31/third-hobbit-movie-release-date-and-title-announced/ .

But they contain action, so nothing wrong with pointing that out. What caught my eye rather was "emotional". Sounds good.

Personally I would have preferred 'The Desolation of the Dragon'. We all know 'The Lord of the Rings' means Sauron, 'The Hobbit' means Bilbo and that the King in 'RotK' refers to Aragorn, but no name had been made explicit before. Then again, maybe expliciting his name is a nice demonstration of his narcissism.

When I first begun reading The Fellowship of the Ring (I would have been 10(ish)), I thought The Return of the King meant Sauron. That was for the first couple of chapters, mind. . Aragorn hadn't been introduced, and neither do you find out about his true identity for a while. Why would one think differently?

from a Warner Brothers suit. It shouldn't surprise anyone that they'll highlight the action of the film in a press release. That's just what they do.
"All men dream; but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds awake to find that it was vanity; But the dreamers of day are dangerous men. That they may act their dreams with open eyes to make it possible." - T.E. Lawrence

I also thought it meant Sauron at first. That's why "The Return of the King" is a better title than "The Return of Aragorn" or "The Return of King Elessar" And I just think the word "dragon" is more evocative and whimsical than "Smaug" (it sounds too much like "smog" to my foreign self.)

It really interrupts the "flow" between AUJ and TABA, and sounds more fitting for a cheesy 80's "Conan the Barbarian"-style romp than the epic which PJ is apparently attempting to create...we'll see, however. IMO, a better trio of titles would have been: An Unexpected Journey The Lonely Mountain There and Back Again
My Top 5 Wish List for "The Hobbit" 5. Legolas will surf down Smaug's neck 4. Bilbo will be revealed to a Robot 3. Naked PJ cameo as Ghan-Buri-Ghan 2. Use of not only 3D, but smell-o-vision, plus the inclusion of axes coming out of the seats and poking the audience when appropriate 1. Not only keep the claim that Thorin & Co. ran amok in Mirkwood "molesting people", but depict said incident in vivid detail!!!!!

There isn't a snowball's chance in hell of these two movies keeping the same release date. Someone's going to move (and I think we have a pretty good idea of which one that will be). Hence, X-Men fans are furious.

To christmas. It's such a nice tradition with Tolkien movies at Christmas. Why ruin in that in what looks like the last Tolkien movie in our lifetime (well, almost. Cause I don't think Silmarillion will be filmed anytime soon... ) I would gladly wait those 5 extra months just to see it premiere on Christmas. Releasing the last movie just 6 months after the former isn't a good idea, either.
The greatest adventure is what lies ahead.

I just opened my LEGO Helm's Deep kit this morning, and while looking at the instruction booklets, noticed a page talking about LEGO Hobbit. At the bottom, lots of legal-ese about how "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" is trademarked and all that. So it occurs to me that at the very least, the first movie's title is now Cast In Stone, so to speak. Any/All companies that have licensed use of The Hobbit in upcoming products would be very unhappy if they had to change things on their packaging -- which is probably already in full production for holiday sales. ... well, ok... this is just my theory ... but I'm sticking with it for now...
