I had a $100 gift certificate to the iTunes store, so I bought the Beatles box set that I've been meaning to get for awhile now.
Listened to most of the albums now. It's been a long time for some of them, and some songs I'm pretty sure I've never heard before. I got into the Beatles through my dad's record collection, which of course had the American versions of the Beatles' albums. So, e.g., while I always liked Rubber Soul, in my mind it's the American version -- with "I've Just Seen a Face" (which was 'really' from Help), but not "If I Needed Someone". In the US, the latter appeared on the album Yesterday and Today which my dad didn't have and I've never heard, so a song like "If I Needed Someone" is new to me. So, it's kind of cool to discover new Beatles music. 
Highest point of the Beatles' career in my opinion: the Strawberry Fields Forever/Penny Lane single. What an amazing pair of songs. The piccolo trumpet in Penny Lane is one of the greatest things in music ever.

I haven't even been listening at work since I've need to be pretty mobile and accessible to people talking to me. I just sit my Zen on the desk since it's a little bulky to strap to my waistband and wear headphones.
But, my son mentioned he was looking for some music we used to listen to when he was younger: Pyewacket's 7 to Midnight. That recording by them was mostly music used for English Country Dancing but they put a great vibe on it. One piece even goes into some Caribbean flavor with steel drums.
It's out of print (from vinyl) and has never been offered digitally. I thought we might have it so I dug through my records and found it. The other son has a turntable (we got rid of our old one - probably because there wasn't room for it in the electronic stack anymore) so he could try to set up to record it digitally. But I thought we might have already and I did find some tracks - I appear to have only kept the ones that were suitable for dancing to.
For some reason, there is only one Pyewacket song on Youtube. Amazon has one album available for sale as CD or download so you can hear samples from there. But 7 to Midnight will be a favorite because I love the Country Dance tunes.

Heard it for the first time in Thailand, more specifically my third time there in a bar where i stayed many evenings because there was this amazing philipino minstrel, just one of those great musicans who don't get recognized in the modern world. He had great thoughts and stories too, he was a friend of Finnish miss Universe Armi Kuusela... It's a small world.
Anyway the song is 'Anak' which means child, but you don't even have to know that, its still beautiful even though you don't understand it.

in preparation for going next month. I'm really psyched because it's the first time I'm going with my niece, and I'm looking forward to seeing it through her eyes. It will be hurricane season and you're always taking a chance in the fall, but my brother really wanted to take her to the Not-So-Scary Halloween event. That will be different for us, as we've never gone during a seasonal event.

"Trespassing" and I have been listening (and singing along) with it in my car. As much of a rocker as he is, he can be quite soulful with his ballads as well. Some may be put of by his lifestyle but his voice is wonderful.

when record labels release all of these different versions of albums and tracklistings for various different countries. From a fans standpoint, it makes it difficult to track down all of these various things....but like you mentioned, sometimes happy surprises are to be found

While i'm getting ready for work, and during my commute. After spending an hour or so dealing with the bosses  .....musical bliss on the ipod all day long
I love classic rock too, and have been into the mighty Van Halen lately. Particularly the albums 'Diver Down' and '1984'. Alex is a monster on the drum kit !

and I regret it to this very day. I was 19 years old, just striking out on my own, and already a month behind on rent. I sold my entire collection for $800 ( roughly 300 records) and now....there are several of those albums that fetch $200 - $300 a piece. Live and learn.
I bet your dad must have had an impressive collection of bluegrass,country, etc. If memory serves from a previous discussion here, he was into country pickin'. I love this music too....so much honesty and passion just from a guy and his guitar.
I miss album covers too. There are quite a few boutique labels out there today who still have a love for the art of the album cover, but they are few and far between, and often very expensive. I remember just sitting in my room staring at the artwork while listening to the record, and following along with the lyrics. I would read everything too....all the credits, and the thank you lists were fun too

Last year I went to the Disneyland Halloween event, and I absolutely loved the Nightmare Before Christmas themed haunted house. I'm a huge fan of the movie and the classic Haunted House attraction, and to see the two merged together was great fun.

Jimmie Rodgers (with a 'd'... not Jimmie Rogers), Jim Reeves, Bing Crosby, and Teresa Brewer.
He liked to pick but he loved listening to crooners. And although we had a few country artists in the house (Gene Autry, Tennesee Ernie Ford) we didn't have a lot. And he never strayed into Country and Western.
I don't really regret the purges too much. I like to collect. But in order to collect, one must let some things go. When I put my Dad's extensive collection of Jim Reeves in the garage sale, someone from other country (can't remember where) who was a student here bought them all. He loved Reeves and was so excited to get them. Sometimes, letting things go to people who love them isn't a bad thing.
My sister was pissed when she found out I sold them, though. Room. It all comes down to room. But she also said she was still looking for a CD of The Ames Brothers Christmas album. She apparently was looking for it to show up at Walmart or something. While she was talking, I got onto Amazon, found the CD, and purchased it before she could finish talking. I don't think she had heard of Amazon before and didn't know that you could buy old recordings there.
Dad also had a huge collection of Bing Crosby that I've let go and I had lots of rock from the 60s, 70s and a dribble from the 80s.

but we don't get the NBC overhaul here on the East Coast. I think I would have mixed feelings about it, since we aren't so close that we go often. If the lines are short enough that we can leave my niece with our parents for a little while, I'd like to go on the Mansion with my brother to see Constance for the first time (from what I read she's pretty scary), but we'll see.

is a very important part of who I am. It can be inspiring at times, uplifting when it needs to be and just flat out perpetuate the great mood I am in quite often. Drawing from my fairly large collection of albums, I can usually find the right song or two to fit the mood I'm in without missing a beat.
Speaking of albums, I still have a small vinyl collection that has survived several moves, as well as a childhood with five kids wanting their turn being DJ. It's fairly eclectic. We were very young and joined the Columbia House record club for a penny. Remember those days? Taping the penny to the order form - oh what a bargain we were getting.
In any case, here's what I still have, in no particular order:

I still enjoy attending concerts, but the cost has gone through the roof. My first concert in 1984 was $8 for a floor seat to Chicago. About 50 concerts later, and I paid $100 to see Roger Waters perform The Wall earlier this summer. In a word, awesome. Some co-workers and I are attending the latest Rush concert next month; we splurged on the VIP ticket (don't ask).
