I'm all for Shore's mucic being used elsewhere. It's often used in TV programmes in the UK. Personally though, I don't think this music fits the trailer. I'm not sure if that is because it actually doesn't, or because I'm familiar with this music (and it's the first time it's been used in a trailer). I wouldn't moan about it being distasteful or disrespectful though

The only difference is it has a bit more edge and framing about it that makes it feel more personal than outward and majestic (not to say it doesn't have that at all). I like what I'm seeing!
FOTR 10th Anniversary Music Video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33xJU3AIwsg "You do not let your eyes see nor your ears hear, and that which is outside your daily life is not of account to you. Ah, it is the fault of our science that it wants to explain all; and if it explain not, then it says there is nothing to explain."

I mean, I loved The Avengers for what it was (nerdgasm), but, I prefer something that aims a bit higher in terms of themes. And I think you can definitely feel Christopher Nolan's producer hands in this, it feels very "Superman Begins" as people have called it. Snyder's a great visual director, but certainly not an idea man, so, I'm hoping it's a good script. Watchmen was painful solely because that film needed to depart more from the comic (just because of pacing differences between graphic novels and film), so, I'm hoping he's learned a bit since then. David Goyer is also a hit-or-miss writer (his only good works being the Batman films), so fingers crossed that he's onto something good. And I was thinking a bit more about the specific choice of song in terms of what it means as a theme. They released two trailers with quotes from both of Superman's fathers Jor-el and Johnathan Kent, both of whom die. So, picking this song that indicated the loss of Gandalf, the old and wise wizard, is beyond appropriate. There was much more thought put into this song choice than simply 'it sounds sad'. I remember some people were worried that a Superman reboot would be too dark and gritty, but, I like this melancholy tone. After all, what better way to place Superman as a beacon of hope than by making the world around him dark?

I enjoyed the Avengers as well. In my opinion it was a lot of fun and excitement. I just have grown tired from movies like X-men 3, Wolverine, and the spiderman trilogy and want to see more quality productions created. And I agree with you about Snyder. He does do good visuals but not sure about his writing and how he handles action. But I think he said he is going to make Superman in a very different style. And thank you for elaborating on the song as well. When I said that it made it sound sad I should have commented that I got the same feeling as you did. Superman's father's are dead and he seems to be struggling with the loss within himself which gives it a more melancholy tone. Which I think will make it more emotional. And I'm not saying the whole thing has to be depressing. I just want something that is going to make me care about the character. Honestly, I'm surprised people would be afraid to see a dark grity Superman movie. If anything I always wondered how they would be able to make a Superman movie that we can take seriously. But I now have high hopes for this.

Saw it when i went to see TDKR. I obviously knew what the music was because of this thread. For me although i really like the music itself, i think its too sombre for the scenes being played in the trailer. I am not a massive 300 or sucker punch, thought watchmen was okish (i liked Dr Manhattan), though i did like legend of the guardians, even if using too much CGI (which is a feature of all Snyder's movies) - apart from the scenes in Mars from Watchmen which looked terrible - like a computer game. Though i am a big fan of Christopher Nolans. I would have preferred him to direct this but i guess it would be a bit much for him to do both Batman and Superman! Hopefully Nolan will help Synder out with the writing or just getting a decent plot going which isnt too formulaic. I have always had a soft spot for Superman even though he is one of the least interesting of all superheroes - in my opinion. As he can pretty much do anything he wants, whenever and he was just born with it, not much training or anything it seems. Where is the interest in that. But for some reason i like him - think its because he is the ultimate good guy. Anyway i will be going to the cinema to watch this - i am hoping for a batman begins type of reboot to superman - as in a slightly more darker/realistic/grown up version, though maybe not to the extent of batman as i dont think superman needs to be that dark.

Music use fine, if flying at end was done better

It's a testament to LOTR that they figure (rightly so) that the music will evoke the effect they want for the teaser. But ... The flying was dodgy. If you are going to use such monumental music then the payoff at the end should be equally brilliant, and it wasn't. The cape movement did not seem like flying at 100s of mph, and the sonic boom timing and CGI was definitely not realistic. A better example of epic flight is when Thor's hammer Mjolnir flew to his hand in the Thor movie: http://www.youtube.com/...er_detailpage#t=180s Both the speed of the hammer translated much more literally to me, as well as the sonic boom.
