Yes, there are a couple of verses that get overlooked [In reply to] Can't Post

I guess being true to folk music convention (or lack thereof) lyrics aren't written in stone and there are several versions. I notice in the version Neil Young sings he says "There was a big sign that said no trespassing, and on the other side, it didn't say nothing. That side was made for you and me." (or something to that effect) I've heard that before, though rarely. In the version I posted, it's very similar but adds something about a wall that tries to "stop me", and a sign that says private property.

It seems like revisionist history to teach only the verses dealing with the beauty and bounty of the country. Part of what makes Woodie great is that he could address the inequality and injustice he saw and yet it's clear he still loved his country.

BTW, I saw that doodle. It was "This Land is Your Land" written in red, white, and blue in the shape of the Google logo.

Cheating a bit: "Rocky Mountain High" [In reply to] Can't Post

doesn't have a state's name in the title, but it shows up in the lyrics several times. My alma mater, Rocky Mountain High School, was unofficially named for the song. link

"For DORA BAGGINS in memory of a LONG correspondence, with love from Bilbo; on a large wastebasket. Dora was Drogo's sister, and the eldest surviving female relative of Bilbo and Frodo; she was ninety-nine, and had written reams of good advice for more than half a century."

Sorry for the late reply. [In reply to] Can't Post

Things a bit busy here atm. I first heard the track in 'Inside Job', a fascinating look at one way to explain the banking crisis.
