I guess I'll be that guy [In reply to] Can't Post

The picture of Thorin is awful. Like something straight out of a modelling magazine.

Dwalin looks great, but Balin is really suffering from the prosthetics. His nose looks like it's about to fall off, and it all but obscures Stott's mouth. The poor guy looks like he can barely move his face under all of that makeup.

A young Thorin? [In reply to] Can't Post

Perhaps that picture is of Thorin in flashback from the attack of Smaug or the Battle of Azanulbizar. This would explain why he is carrying his original sword and not Orcrist. If so, this is clever makeup. His nose is thinner (like in RL) and his hair bowner and livelier. He reminds me of Fili and Kili. As dwarves age, their features thicken up so, in the main photo, he has a broader nose, for instance. Personally, I love both pictures.

Younger [In reply to] Can't Post

well he is violent apparently.

I can barely believe that this pic is the same guy as this pic. Confused.com

I'm thinking that picture is younger Thorin, I don't see any grey hair. Perhaps this is how they show that Fili and Kili are not especially "pretty" young dwarves but normal young dwarves, who get "thicker" and rougher looking as they get older(::sniff::)

What Dwalin and Balin are smiling at... [In reply to] Can't Post

Image: http://www.richardarmitagenet.com/...-EWiPad-July2012.jpg

They're looking a portrait of Bilbo's father.

"That's one fine-looking woman!"

No wonder Bilbo looks disturbed!

Disagree [In reply to] Can't Post

I really love how Thorin looks, especially the hair. Armitage is good-looking, sure, but that doesn't mean it could come out of a magazine.

Balin looks a bit better here [In reply to] Can't Post

But I agree 100% that his prosthetics are overbearing - particularly the nose.

Another very odd decision given the very simple fact that Ken Stott's face is wonderfully dwarven as it is! He already has quite a large nose, so why exaggerate it further when it risks looking fake?

I hope this doesn't downgrade his acting, as he is one of my favorites on the cast. Was excellent in the second reason of Rebus.

And? [In reply to] Can't Post

Can be done with a bit of makeup. Not necessary to create an entirely new nose - particularly one as exaggerated as this one.

PJ seems determined to complicate things visually, when there are much simpler, and more aesthetically-pleasing, solutions.

It could just be lighting and PS [In reply to] Can't Post

But it really strikes me as younger. I can't see any grey either. The less sombre attitude is another difference that makes this more Fili-like. Perhaps odd that he's wearing the same stuff as later, if this is a flashback, but then they were exiles. Maybe they were very frugal in hanging onto clothing.

Didn't realise it was Ken Scott under there! [In reply to] Can't Post

I do think he looks like a dwarf before all the make up/prosthetics but i also think he looks dwarven with it on. I dont think i will stop him acting at least i hope not. His nose does look a little too long and his ears are doing something strange in this shot but overall i really like his look. Costume is excellent. I think they are going for a bigger nose is how a dwarf should look, but he is one actor who probably didnt need it.

haha, totally agree [In reply to] Can't Post

I think he looks younger for sure which isnt a bad thing i guess, certainly better than klingon from the original promo photos so im happy about that. To be honest i think its just the hair that is making me think he looks like 80's hair rock god, lol.

Though from the trailer we can see he doesnt quite look like this so nothing to get concerned about for anyone Tongue

Prosthetics [In reply to] Can't Post

One of the reasons they do this is to compensate for everything else that is going on. Especially the massive beards and clothing that would otherwise drown their faces. Plus they want them to have a distinct look, and not just come off as short humans. Imagine if they all looked like Kili Crazy

But I agree to some extent, the nose looks as if it's going to fall off.

From looking at the world champ i think he would give Balin a run for his money but there is too much length on Balins for him to be denied. How does Balin drink with a nose like that, lol.

Thanks for the scans, tablet images Ali [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm pretty curious about Oin and Gloin's roles in the company. Never expected Oin to specialise in herbal medicines and Gloin to be in charge of finances (would have thought that would have been Ori's job). Interesting how the other dwarves don't particularly trust Nori, I wonder how that will it will play out and his reasons for being recruited. I always thought Bifur's axe looked pretty Orcish, so it's good to finaly have confrimation it's a war wound (the ultimate war wound Tongue). I wonder if he received it at the battle Thorin, Thrain, Dain and Azog were all present at (Anzunibarr? I always forget the name).

Really like the photo of Dwalin, Balin and Bilbo. It's good to see the two brothers together. Never noticed Balin seems to have some scars on his forehead and nose.

It would be great if each Dwarf got a new photo like the new ones of Bilbo, Thorin and Gandalf's. They look a lot more natural than the shopped group images that were released IMO.
