The Apprentice: Arwen v. Eowyn

Between Arwen daughter of Elrond (from the Jackson movies), and Eowyn, Shieldmaiden of Rohan (from the books or any adaptation), which would you choose as a warleader? If you need a hypothetical, here's one: You are Gandalf the White. You have been leading Minas Tirith's defenses in preparation for Mordor's attack. Suddenly you are called away to save Faramir and you need to appoint someone to take charge. But who? Imrahil has not shown up yet. Arwen happens to be there because she has shown up with a host from Rivendell and Lorien as could be spared in the midst of the War in the North. The Men of Minas Tirith look up to her as an inspiring figure reminding them of the old alliance of Elves and Men, and are grateful for their aid. Eowyn happens to be there because Rohan, including Theoden and Eomer, have fallen and she has led the remnants of her people as refugees to Minas Tirith. She, along with the last remaining Rohirrim, have become Gondor's elite cavalry unit. The Men of Minas Tirith relate to her as a fellow mortal/ human. Both Arwen and Eowyn are willing to take over, but will not share responsibility with each other. For this hypothetical, they are the highest ranking warleaders available. Which do you, as Gandalf, pick?

You can easily compare Arwen (film only) to Eowyn (any adaptation) in a hypothetical situation (you may as well say both can be from any adaptation since it is a hypothetical situation and therefore whether they are there film or book version is void). Despite that Eowyn - she wanted to fight.

You're right, its not apples to apples. Maybe better to say Arwen from Jackson v. Eowyn from Jackson as you suggested. Eowyn did want to fight as you pointed out. But, perhaps to a fault? Remember, she basically abandoned her post as regent of Rohan, so that "Dernhelm" could have "his" day on the battlefield. Arwen seems more responsible perhaps? She has Elven wisdom and handy water magic. Less emotion-driven than Eowyn, i might suggest. Its unclear how well she can fight but as Aragorn loved her, he probably saw qualities in her that would make her a decent warleader. Cool under pressure, courage, wisdom. She can ride a horse well. She can *probably* wield Hadhafang well, i would guess. She's had ### centuries of time to practice and learn, unlike Eowyn.
