Dwarf Set! Can't Post

It seems our friends over at herr-de-ringe have an exclusive image of a Dwarf Set.

Here is a rough translation (using google translate....):

Quote
Successful Snapshot: Our anonymous donor information has managed a photo of a part of a Dwarven backdrop to make the left just as the gates of Weta Workshop.
Apparently these scenes parts were taken to a place unknown. Also set it to what exactly is unknown, but the dwarf runes, and the steps suggest the environment of Erebor. Maybe it's all about the entrance to the Lonely Mountain?
Now the dwarf runes experts are asked of you. Who finds out what is written on the backdrop of parts and what does it mean exactly? Anyone has an idea, may contact us.

UPDATE: The runes are the Hobbit by JRR Tolkien used Old English runes, representing here the English word KINGDOM (ie "Kingdom"). This is the same runes such as on Thrór card.

Thank you! [In reply to] Can't Post

It's hard to understand what's going on here, thoug. "Kingdom?" Is it from Erebor?

But every word you say today
Gets twisted 'round some other way
And they'll hurt you if they think you've lied

Thanks! [In reply to] Can't Post

Maybe the word "Kingdom" is only on one face of the square ... probably the rune inscription goes round the 4 faces of the column ... something like "The Kingdom of Erebor" or "The Kingdom of Thror" ...

I would imagine it has something to do with Erebor! [In reply to] Can't Post

The article has no *real* information, I'm afraid.

It's a little bit strange for me... [In reply to] Can't Post

...that they use Old English runes in the films instead of LOTR dwarf runes.

(Ok, I know, that The Hobbit book used just Old English runes, but that time the story was not strongly connected to Middle-Earth. After the LOTR we had Angerthas and Cirth.)

hahaha! I know! [In reply to] Can't Post

It's only one of these minor details that we are going to notice. To everyone else it's the same.

Perhaps the Dwarf language changed in a very short period Wink

OK so judging by Anglo Saxon runes yep it'd be: [In reply to] Can't Post

C i n g d o m .....

BUT.... they've failed pretty miserably there... C should be the K rune. N and G should have been replaced with the NG (dipthong) rune...

*sigh* .... I agree with CTT Gandalf... they should have used Angerthas Erebor. Disgraceful to be honest!..... it's so not in keeping with ME history and culture at all.

I'm such a big Cirth fan too Frown

but oh well.....

awesome leak. though they should have gone for Cirth!! >_<

A phonetic system wouldn’t have all three of K, S, and C. Often languages dump that K and just use C. Consider Welsh and Latin (pace kalendas).

NG is not certainly not a diphthong. A diphthong has two sounds, and in modern practice further applies only to vowels. Something like EY, AW, OY, or OW is a diphthong: a main vowel plus a glide.

We write NG in kingdom or singer, but it stands for only one sound, although in finger it does stand for two.

The word you're looking for might be digraph, but that wouldn't apply here either. NG is (usually) a digraph in English, but if there were a single symbol representing that sound, it would be monograph not a digraph.

…all eyes looked upon the ring; for he held it now aloft, and the green jewels gleamed there that the Noldor had devised in Valinor. For this ring was like to twin serpents, whose eyes were emeralds, and their heads met beneath a crown of golden flowers, that the one upheld and the other devoured; that was the badge of Finarfin and his house.
The Silmarillion, pp 150-151
while Felagund laughs beneath the trees
in Valinor and comes no more
to this grey world of tears and war.
The Lays of Beleriand, p 311
