Collecting The Precious - Collecting 'The Hobbit' Can't Post

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,as you all know, comes out in December 14, 2012. There is obvious build up to the movie ranging from the trailer, video blogs, the leaking of pictures, to random writings of what we think will happen, etc. Another aspect of the excitement for The Hobbit is collecting The Hobbit. This for me personally brings everything together, getting those awesome collectibles that tie my love for the book, movie, and the people I share that passion with together.

As of right now there are a few companies out there who have already announced products that tie into the movie or would fit within the movie. We know the folks at LEGO will be making those awesome sets for The Hobbit and have already showed some really great sets from The Lord of the Rings. Action figure collectors will have a chance to get the cast of characters from The Hobbit thanks to our friends at The Bridge Direct who have the license to create toys from the movie.  If you love plushies and bobble-heads then Funko will have you covered. If you visit their web page you can see a list of the products they will be selling but right now its just items of Gandalf, Bilbo, and Gollum.  We also hear that Warner Bros. Consumer Products have signed Ravensburger to create 2D and 3D puzzles and card games tied to the upcoming films, for distribution in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

Thorin, collectors will want to recover this collectible from Badali Jewelry when you purchase the Arkenstone. Finally, high-end collectors have one company who has made an announcement regarding The Hobbit. Gentle Giant announced that Dwalin would be the first character out of their mini-bust line. He can be purchased by joining their PGM program for only $70.

Now, we’re still waiting on announcements from many other companies who most likely will have something from The Hobbit. We can hope that with fans being able to buy LEGO sets that we might be able to get a LEGO The Hobbit video game. Running around in Middle-Earth made of LEGOS would be as much fun as you can have in a LEGO game. Rumors out there also sound like we might get an official movie game via WB Interactive and if it’s like The Return of the King game that will be fun.  We also have it on good authority - straight from the horse’s mouth - that The Noble Collection will be making The Hobbit related items, but no word on exactly what.   Maybe another Arkenstone will be coming our way?

Two of our favorite companies have been quiet on what they might be doing for The Hobbit. Sideshow Collectibles and Weta Workshop who have a track record of making great items representing Middle-Earth will hopefully soon make announcements regarding what they will be bringing to the table - and as we posted earlier, we hear through the grapevine that two books, ‘The Hobbit Chronicles: An Unexpected Journey’ and ‘The Hobbit Location Guide: Where the Journey Begins’, will be coming from Weta Workshop.

As we get more news on what we know and what we don’t ,we here at TORn will make sure you the fan know what to spend your money on.  And if you just can’t wait, you can always buy yourself a hobbit hole (thanks to Nerd Approved for the article link) to go in your garden in the meantime.

I want to thank fellow TORn staffer greendragon for all the help provided in making this article all work.
