SURFIN’ DOWN THE STAIRS, a parody about Legolas (The Beach Boys, Surfin’ USA)

This is probably going to be the last one, at least for a while, of my series of beach-party, surfer-dude, California- themed LOTR-related parodies. Remember, it's probably best enjoyed with the music on, anything to evoke the hang-ten, tubular atmosphere. Links to the Beach Boys song are below. I hope you enjoy it. SURFIN’ DOWN THE STAIRS (to the tune of The Beach Boys, Surfin’ USA) If everybody handled action (oooh!) Across the Arda way (oooh!) Like a certain Wood Elf dude (oooh!) L – E – G – O – L - A - (oooh!) - S, they’d shoot at the baddies (oooh!) And use their twin knives too (oooh!) A pretty pretty blond hairdo (oooh!) Surfin’ down the stairs. (oooh!) You’d catch ‘em climbin’ on cave trolls (Inside M-O-R-I-A!) Down in the mithril mine (Inside M-O-R-I-A!) Khazad-dûm, that ol’ Dwarf realm, (Inside M-O-R-I-A!) Under the Silvertine (Inside M-O-R-I-A!) Pits that don’t have a bottom (Inside M-O-R-I-A!) The bridges crack and sway (Inside M – O …!) Everybody’s gone surfin’ (surfin’!) Surfin’ stone walkways. We’ll all be manning the Deep (oooh!) They’re gonna take real soon (oooh!) We’ll try to shoot down the torch-dude (oooh!) Before wall goes ka-BOOM (oooh!) We’ll try to push off the ladders (oooh!) So that they’re fallin’ down there (oooh!) Show the Uruks some surfin’ (oooh!) Surfin’ down the stairs. (oooh!) Haradrim got armies (In part three R-O-T-K!) Mûmakil brigades (In part three R-O-T-K!) We’ll be climbing their stirrups (In part three R-O-T-K!) And swingin’ from their reins (In part three R-O-T-K!) Tip over their archers (In part three R-O-T-K!) Hear ‘em scream like punks (In part three R-O-T-K!) Everybody’s gone surfin’ (surfin’!) Surfin’ mûmak trunks. INSTRUMENTAL Everybody’s gone surfin’ (surfin’!) Fallin’ stone walkways Everybody’s gone surfin’ (surfin’!) Surfin’ down the stairs Everybody’s gone surfin’ (surfin’!) Down the Dead Pathways Yeah, everybody’s gone surfin’ (surfin’!) At Belfalas Bay Yeah, everybody’s gone surfin’ (surfin’!) Slidin’ the trunk-way Yeah, everybody’s gone surfin’ (surfin’!) At the Mordor Gate [Fade out] http://www.lyrics007.com/...U.s.a.%20Lyrics.html http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w7n3QgQTPVg

In one of those lines, I'd like to substitute the words "gone surfin'" to "shield surfin'" Other than that this is a massive hit. You've exceeded even yourself! Bravo! I don't suppose you've ever seen the movie Top Secret? It has one of the most bizarre openings I've ever seen... http://youtu.be/MaXOHCNgYrc Also, I've spent some time in the last few days trying to record Radagast the Brown. But it's so tough to sing I can never get through it all. I'll keep at it, though.

This one deserves a video mash-up and proper sound engineering.

Surfin' mumak trunks - this is hilarious! Like totally tubular, man!

Are you sure you're not Inferno wearing a sockpuppet? She used to post amazing parodies back in the day :-D

Everybody’s shield surfin’ (surfin’!) Surfin’ down the stairs for the repeating choruses after the instrumental. Sure, that works. thanks Q, glad you liked it. Thanks for putting up that clip, which is just about perfect for this thread I hadn't seen that part of Top Secret, i've only seen parts of it. That reminds me to go watch the whole thing, next opportunity. Looking forward to your rendition of Radagast the Brown. Did you find another vocalist to harmonize with? If not, i wasn't kidding about trying something by teleconference, if it can be recorded.

...but no I haven't used that nick. I haven't become acquainted with her or her parodies, but now having heard of her through you I would like to be. Any possibility you could point to where I could read them? Thanks for saying so but i'm nothing amazing, just a bit crazy perhaps, i really can't stop writing these things! i enjoy it, what can i say.

I didn't find anyone for harmonies...

But I find it hard to play this song and sing at the same time, so I may record the vocals separately - this would give you a chance to record the harmonies and/or an extra guitar if you're willing? But because I'm not a good singer I'll spare everyone from me trying to harmonise with myself Problem is my "work" computer is broken, so the laptop I'm using isn't mine and doesn't have very good editing software, so I'm not sure how we'd do this

but here's one. I wasn't really serious, except that she used to post parodies about as often as you do. She's still around, but mostly working behind the scenes as a PTB. I really am enjoying all of your fine work so much, RT.

Thanks for the link. I actually have run across that during research on past parodies, and didn't connect it to the nick in my memory. That parody was great fun! The Utumno twist, lol! Glad you've been enjoying, thank you *bow*

We cd try a jam session over ichat or skype and see whether lag would be an issue. Could be deadly. Or if you mean separately laying down tracks in layers, what app would be the right one, garage band? I have it but have never tried using it. If it can be done digitally then it might work. Others might participate too. Nightingale has singing training, for example. Btw i have experience harmonizing with myself , and playing accompaniment, on a four-track recorder. I think it would be good if we both tried harmonizing though, just to see. Also if i add guitar, i think you should play lead. I'm more of a rhythm guitarist. I am comfortable singing while playing, though.
