So much for him only doing voice work for the Necromancer! That changes everything that we have been thinking. Unless, of course, he was talking about yet another character. But I don't think so.

Why mo-cap an already human-shaped character?

Clearly the "nameless character" will be much more than just another Ring-wraith type creature. Why he'd need mo-cap as opposed to other techniques is interesting... How human will this thing look?

Why mo-cap an already human-shaped character? Why not? Gollum is human-shaped.

And welcome to TORn :) So I guess it's confirmed that the Necromancer will be more than just a voice character. This sort of ties in with what Benedict said in a previous interview about the Necromancer going to the Battle of Five Armies. I guess the consolation is that the character remains "nameless".

method acting.
Silverlode "Of all faces those of our familiares are the ones both most difficult to play fantastic tricks with, and most difficult really to see with fresh attention. They have become like the things which once attracted us by their glitter, or their colour, or their shape, and we laid hands on them, and then locked them in our hoard, acquired them, and acquiring ceased to look at them. Creative fantasy, because it is mainly trying to do something else [make something new], may open your hoard and let all the locked things fly away like cage-birds. The gems all turn into flowers or flames, and you will be warned that all you had (or knew) was dangerous and potent, not really effectively chained, free and wild; no more yours than they were you." -On Fairy Stories

He does say the mo-cap is for "another character, which will remain nameless" (not who will remain nameless), so maybe it's not a human. And if he does just mean the Necromancer, I'd have to wonder why he wouldn't mention the name, since he's talked about playing him a number of times before. Besides, he'll have had to indulge in some wing-flapping anyway, to play Smaug, won't he?

I'm not questioning their motives for using mo-cap, but speculating what this means about the character. Gollum needed mo-cap because of how thin and non-human he looks despite his shape. I wonder how human The Necromancer is going to look. Obviously, if he is simply missing a few fingers on one hand then mo-cap wouldn't be necessary.

He even says he is doing mo-cap for a character he can't talk about. Everyone knows he'll voice the Necromancer, so obviously he would say so. Probably a cameo.

Benedict playing the Necromancer, and the Necromancer being Sauron aren't exactly SPOILER stuff. Let's assume he has been given a third character to play too.

I'm pretty sure that the second character is the Necromancer and BC is being a bit tongue-in-cheek. In Rider Haggard's "She", Ayesha is a sorceress and is referred to only as She Who Must Be Obeyed and, of course, Voldemort, The Dark Lord of Harry Potter, is called He Who Must Not Be Named. Not only is this BC's little joke but it means he can avoid revealing whether the character will be called The Necromancer or Sauron or Whoever.

Which is great. I've said before that I loved the shock a lot of non-comic fans had when Harvey Dent changed in The Dark Knight. Just because fans already know what's going to happen, it doesn't mean you have to spoil it for those that don't.
