New Line - Its a good event for an Announcement!

 Unless you've been hiding under a hobbit hole, you are well aware that that this Saturday is not only Frodo and Bilbo's Birthday, but also the 70th Anniversary of the publication of 'The Hobbit.' If you were a certain big-time Hollywood studio in charge of bringing 'The Hobbit' to the big-screen, don't you think this major event would inspire some kind of announcement from any party involved? An action like that would do wonders for repairing any tensions between this said Hollywood entity and the world of Tolkien fandom. Just our two cents - take it or leave it! And as always, if any people-in-the-know want to anonymously send us some juicy mathoms to honor this special Anniversary, feel free to email us directly at spymaster@theonering.net.

Yeah, there have been some quiet, conciliatory noises here and there, and I hope it might add up to something. Certainly, announcing something on such an auspicious day would be a most excellent thing.

It'd be nice, but I don't think the studios are as keyed into these dates as we are...assuming there's anything to announce in the first place.
Not to be a wet blanket, of course. I'm as eager for (good) news about this project as anyone.

we could have dreamed up some great T-shirts to commemorate this date and its connection to the birthdays and anniversary date of The Hobbit if New Line would have let us know in time. Anyway, I can't wait to wear a Line Party 4 ("The Hobbit") and 5 ("Link to LOTR", working title) shirt. Come on, New Line, we can't wait to make you rich again!

And whilst I'm as excited as anyone about the possibility of an announcement this weekend - I don't believe it but I'd LOVE it - I just had a question... I thought Friday 21st was the anniversary of the Hobbit? It's still all the same weekend - but I just got confused. The Hobbit wasn't actually published on Bilbo's birthday, was it?

...considering the new Houghton-Mifflin book on the history of The Hobbit being released this Friday and all the Birthday parties this weekend for NL to do something impressive. Prove they can see beyond the difficulties with Peter (ie. Losing round one) and see the fans- aka those of us bringing them the millions! We want it and, yes, New Line, if PJ makes it, we will come.
