Stinky in The Hobbit Can't Post

I just received a news email from Willowbank, which is one of our local wildlife reserves in Christchurch. The pertinent part is as follows:

Filming for the Hobbit
Some of Willowbank's animals are off to Glenorchy to help in the filming of the Hobbit. Stinky (the goat), some of the
sheep, two cattle - a dexter & a galloway, a miniature donkey and some sebastopol geese are setting off for Queenstown
on Monday.

Glenorchy is a gorgeous tiny townlet about an hour from Queenstown; a horse trekking outfit there provided some of the horses used in LOTR. So it looks like there's going to be filming there again.

Stinky the goat, by the way, more than lives up to his name! My boys often feed him on our visits to Willowbank, so it's neat thinking that maybe he'll get to have a cameo in The Hobbit. Below is the picture of him that was included in the email. Willowbank wrote of the picture: This image shows Stinky getting ready for his trip. He has been taken on walks to get used to wearing a halter and walking alongside David [the handler accompanying the critters to Glenorchy].

beorn [In reply to] Can't Post

I wonder if these animals will be at Beorn's house, since the only other animal place I can think of is the Shire, which is at Matamata.

Hobbit firster, Book firster.

I thought [In reply to] Can't Post

this was going to be official confirmation that Brian Blessed was in the films! Tongue

My Top 5 Wish List for "The Hobbit"
5. Legolas will surf down Smaug's neck
4. Bilbo will be revealed to a Robot
3. Naked PJ cameo as Ghan-Buri-Ghan
2. Use not only 3D, but smell-o-vision, with axes coming out of the seats and poking the audience when appropriate
1. Not only keep the claim that Thorin & Co. ran amok in Mirkwood "molesting people", but depict said incident in vivid detail!!!!!

You know a celebrity! [In reply to] Can't Post

Is there any particular reason he's got the name "Stinky"?

I'll have to get his hoof-ograph [In reply to] Can't Post

the next time we see him. Smile

"Stinky" is probably the most pertinent name possible for this goat, as you can smell him from about 20 feet away. I don't have much experience with billy goats, but he may be fairly typical in that regard. We always have to wash our hands well after we feed him!

Sebastopol geese [In reply to] Can't Post

Interesting news! Thank you for sharing!

About the sebastopol geese, I googled them to find out what they exactly are and they look quite funny and odd. Not just any 'standard' geese, so I think they will add a nice new 'layer' of strange animals to Middle Earth.

Thanks for sharing [In reply to] Can't Post

Thanks Roheryn.

We were at Glenorchy last week on a "Safari of the Rings" tour. The set is a few kms away past Arcadia Station (on Dart Stables land?) - great place for the animals to stay. Smile
