High resolution EW/Empire photos Can't Post

My apologies if these have been posted in another thread. I made this thread simply to make these pictures quicker to access.

Can't be sure until the official photo of Thorin, but it really looks to me like he has a short beard - bordering on being a goatee. Color me disappointed, if that's the case.

But Bilbo and Gandalf for the win.

Excellent pictures [In reply to] Can't Post

Thank you for making these links more easy to locate. They're smashing pictures.

Do you really think Thorin has a short beard? I've zoomed in and it is difficult to tell where his beard ends due to the placement of his arm and his dark clothes. It is possible that his beard, whilst not as bushy as some of the other dwarves, it actually longer than you suppose.

Still, hopefully we will soon see him, and can then judge how far he strays from our conception of Thorin from the book Smile

I at least had not seen these at this resolution, thanks!!! [In reply to] Can't Post

It is now quite clear that Bilbo is holding a contract!

Also clears one question in my mind - whether these are the oufits they where at the begining of the movie or after they raid the dragon hoard (Dwalin's "knuckle-dusters" are clear in the photo). Does this mean that this collection of weapons gets lost in the goblin caves? Or will PJ find a way for them to hang onto them despite being captured by trolls, goblins, spiders, and elves?

I had the same problem with Gandalf in the trilogy... [In reply to] Can't Post

...you know how every time he looses his staff he gets an unexplained, identical replacement! I'd say that the weapons get confiscated in Goblin Town, only to be returned to them after Gandalf kills the Great Goblin in what will probably be a fleshed-out scene with considerably more fighting...I don't see this bunch of toughnuts submitting so easily to a bunch of measily orcs!

Bofur's hood.... [In reply to] Can't Post

Does the fact that Bofur is wearing a hat mean that he won't wear a hood? In the book he has a yellow hood and in the EW and Empire images he has yellow apparently on his trousers. But in the IGN image he doesn't have any yellow on his trousers? http://moviesmedia.ign.com/...0110713111341600.jpg

Does he have his hood on his knee in the EW/Empire pics or something? Why would he wear a hood and a hat?

To keep warm? [In reply to] Can't Post

It's not unheard of—I personally think Bofur is quite proud of his hat or its a token from someone he loves, so he's not going to just wear a hood. Hmm…

I suspect they've thrown out the hoods, but [In reply to] Can't Post

Medieval hoods came in many different styles, some that we would probably call hats today. So replacing his hood with a hat wouldn't be that far afield.

I don't think it's the contract... [In reply to] Can't Post

I think it's the dwarves order for breakfast, 2nd breakfast and elevenses in one easy to manage document. Tongue

I liked it, so I put a ring on it.

I think they might have hoods yet.... [In reply to] Can't Post

or some of them might. Ori does. You can just see something which might be a blue hood (not up) on the high res of Kili, and when they show them on the road they will surely have some kind of head covering, either separate hoods or hooded cloaks. Maybe not the famous 'detachable party hoods' but perhaps a nod in that direction.

Fascinating link, btw!

Wouldn't it be essential early in the movie? [In reply to] Can't Post

I think the dwarves would draw far too much attention in Hobbiton without the hoods. And they'll need them for the rough weather between there and Goblin-town.
