oh my. this question has been killing me since Martin Freeman spilled the news.
who will benedict play?
I first thought Smaug, but then, as I was watching the animated version of the Hobbit, and it came to the part about Smaug's death, I sat up and shouted "Bard the Bowman! he'd be perfect for that role!"
but no news from PJ.
all of this secrecy is driving me insane.
I.must.. know. now.
but, none of us knows...
yet.
but, in all of this debate, who do you think our beloved Sherlock will play?

----Benedict's role in Sherlock looks more attuned to the character of Smaug, he has a commanding presence and makes Martin Freeman look small in comparison.

But yeah, I really hope Benedict is Smaug :D
I absolutely love his voice! ^^
I got a soundclip from youtube and tried to mix around with it, to make it sound more dragon/demon-ish and it sounded AMAZING :D
I just think how much better professionals do it :)

I've seen the new Sherlock Holmes and am now watching Benedict in To The Ends of the Earth and I vote for him to be Smaug. He's not even close to what I'd pictured for Bard.

Well, We know now what Benedict is going to play. I was surprised that the movie makers released the actual roles so fast, I was expecting to wait until next spring to be informed.
