Sean Bean OK after Bar Confrontation
|

|
Actor Sean Bean, who played Boromir in LOTR, was apparently in a bar brawl where he was stabbed with a piece of glass! True to his rugged characters, there were no major injuries and Sean seemingly continued to have a pint! Thanks to Ringer Irfon for the heads up:
He became known to millions as the rugged, hero soldier in historical drama Sharpe. And now actor Sean Bean has proven once and for all that his tough-guy image is not just fictional. The Daily Mail has learned that Bean was ‘stabbed’ in the arm following a row over a beautiful young model. [Full Article]

Seriously. I'm glad he's not badly hurt, but isn't he a little old for bar fights?

I read the article and it says that after the guy made stupid comments, SB followed him down the road to challenge him. What happened to just ignoring it and letting it go?

if he stands ready to defend Galadriel at the drop of a hat? Some men cannot stand or let lie an act of belligerent disrespect, especially toward a woman. Sean probably had that quiet moment and decided he couldn't let it go. It may have been foolish in some respects but my respect for him went way up.
''Sam put his ragged orc-cloak under his master's head, and covered them both with the grey robe of Lorien; and as he did so his thoughts went out to that fair land, and to the Elves, and he hoped that the cloth woven by their hands might have some virtue to keep them hidden beyond all hope in this wilderness of fear...But their luck held, and for the rest of that day they met no living or moving thing; and when night fell they vanished into the darkess of Mordor.'' - - -rotk, chapter III May the grace of Manwë let us soar with eagle's wings! Especially to challenge Eomer to a sword/axe fight over it. Anyway, I can defend my own honor, thank you. I don't need a bunch of men coming to blows and getting violent over it.

... and alcohol does tend to make one lose one's inhibitions a bit. (I don't mean to imply that he was drunk, although of course we don't know that!) Also, considering where he grew up, he might have a different view of how to defend a lady (if 'lady' is the right word in this case ). Lady or not, I daresay my 'cavewoman instincts' might lead me to expect my escort to defend me, too, although the more sophisticated and trying-to-be-a-peaceable Buddhist me would tend to just walk away and ask my escort to let it go. Hard for us to say --- we weren't there. But where did that piece of glass come from?
'Goodness gracious, you really are a messie!' 'Oh no, I'm not, these are all just mathoms...'

He's willing to defend his lady, even if it gets him in trouble. It would be pretty hard to just walk away when someone is talking about your special lady friend. Reminds me of the lyrics to that song "This Day We Fight!" by Megadeth (which is coincidentally about LotR) "No turning the other cheek like a coward Come tomorrow I may lay down and die But not this day, this day we fight!"
"I warn you, if you bore me, I shall take my revenge" --J.R.R. Tolkien

That "news" articles in the Daily Mail probably contained more than a little embellishment. I am sure there is a tiny grain of truth in that article somewhere, but, as for what they said actually happened, I am sure it was largely invention. The Daily Mail are famous for it over here.
