I just saw this on facebook, and I've got to say I'm very pleased. The fact that so many people thought it was Ian Holm just makes me like Freeman all the more as Bilbo.

I'm terribly excited about Ian's return! Pete, or someone on his team must be reading TORN, since that was such a big deal on here a while back.

Depending on how recent the comment was posted, it is now about 1:40PM Eastern on Friday, and if my little time app on my phone is correct, that makes it about 5:40 AM on Saturday in Wellington. He is amazing!! That is so cool about Sir Ian Holm.

I was pretty sure it was not Sir Ian Holm. I´m so pleased to know that he´s coming back, that will make Freeman to resemble a lot like the old Bilbo!

I humbly apologize for nagging and nagging in that other post that the voice was not Martin Freeman. My vote was on Ian Holm or Andy Serkis. I was wrong. But I'm glad Peter confirmed it.

Martin Freeman wins. Also, glad to hear about Holm's involvement. Looks like Bilbo will be telling Frodo the story - which is much better than the idea of Frodo reading from the Red Book.

so cool....I still get this feeling that the Drowning of Frodo's parents and the suppequence adoption of Frodo will be dealt with....I sorta see it as then we takes him to BagEnd to live.... he says something like this "At Bag-End you can't help having adventures, often un-expected"....My vote for the closing line.

We have confirmation that the famous line: "In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit" is in the script! Or at least it was at the time of that table read! Let's hope it stays in through to the end - I don't care where in the movie they use it as long as it's in there. Omitting it would be like making "The Lord of the Rings" without saying "One ring to rule them all..." etc
"Tim... Canterbury... Canterbury Tales... Chaucer... Shakespeare."

Is sharping your points still allowed? The news that it was MF reading the line is one thing, and I think it is wonderful as it confirms the emerging general sense of how he will play the role. But the really big news -- that PJ treated as an after thought almost -- is that Sir Ian H will be in TH as well. Last we heard even he didn't know that. Should say too that I'm digging the personal touch we are getting from PJ. I was starting to believe he didn't have it in him... glad I was wrong about that!

Sir Ian was in the dark for awhile, but he may have just been waiting for a call date, which I assume he now has, since we're hearing it directly from Peter. I'm sure Ian will be ready whenever he's needed, he seemed to really enjoy being Bilbo in the other films.

I think, in the long run, that The Hobbit will have been the best thing that could have happened for him. He certainly seems re-energized. That is a very good thing for the project and a wonderful thing for us.

Now PJ just needs to confirm that the creatures in the vid are not trolls. Anyway since it was Freeman's voice would that highly suggest that it will be the opening line of the movie? Maybe Frodo won't even appear until the end of film 2

is Pete says that Martin is reading the line from one of the first read through's when the cast arrived. Presumably, Martin didn't have much time to work on things yet, and it sounded so PERFECT! It is very good news that Ian Holm will be a part of this. I have fond memories of seeing FOTR for the first time, and it was his portrayal of Bilbo that had me believing these films could be incredible.

Well that is going to be awesome! Freeman's voice sounds great, like a younger Bilbo. And having Holm in there is gonna bridge the gap between TH and LOTR greatly.
