Idle "Idol" Chatter Can't Post

American Idol: Week 1, 24 contestants, 2 guys and 2 girls are going home tonight.

Who is it, and who do you think is safe? Thoughts on the show thus far?

My picks?

Guys getting the boot: The first guy (so lame I don't even know his name) and Sundance.
Girls getting the boot: The 20 year old pretty Jersey girl who sang Aerosmith, 2nd girl to sing, again, No Name.

When I can't recall their names, they're not worth it.

Oh, and I puffy heart Simon Cowell. He always agrees with me.

Snark: It's what's for dinner.

I was happy to see that someone sang Keane [In reply to] Can't Post

The girls are so much better than the guys this year.

Although, it does seem that the contestants overall, except for a few, really suck.

I'm pulling for the beat box guy and the girl with red streaks in her hair.

Beat Box Dude and Gina (Red Streak Girl) too, but howzabout a few of those girl powerhouses? LaKisha, Jordin..there were quite a few good girls. Overall, I agree- the suckage factor has intensified.

The Dial Idol stats scare me. (No spoilers) [In reply to] Can't Post

(You can see them for yourself if you'd like to.)

Vote for the Worst has apparently elected Sundance Head. (How he made it through the Hollywood rounds is beyond me. It must have been a casting decision, because it sure as heck wasn't a musical one,IMHO.)
I don't know if America is taking its orders from VftW or "We" just have really bad taste. [based on the Dial Idol charts]
I know some people who vote based on factors that do NOT include vocal ability, and what I feel for them can't be expressed on a family board. *sigh*

The girls have been far more impressive than the guys.

Yeah, I'm not big fan of Sauron Cowell, but he usually backs up what I've just stated to those watching the show with me. He's usually right, IMO.

I really like Blake the BeatBox and Gina too. They seem more consistently good than some of the other contestants who performed well the last two nights, but I'm not ready to pick my top faves yet.

I remember not liking it last year, too. I guess it should be one vote per phone, but in this day and age there's always ways around it.

I haven't yet memorized all the names yet, but I'm almost certain it will come down to four of the girls. The two I think are the favorites are the former background sister, and the girl who went last last night. They are heads and shoulders above the rest of the 22.

OK I just checked the site - the four I like are Jordin, Sabrina, Melinda, and Lakisha. I can't honestly see anyone beside Melinda or Lakisha winning.

I missed the guys the other night. How did Sanjay do? He sounded so good in the early rounds.

PS - why are people raving about Jennifer Hudson so much? I thought she sucked on Idol. My wife and I referred to her as crazy eyes, because she looks psychotic when she sings. Plus she mumbles and mispronounces so bad it's funny. We couldn't understand half of what she ever sang.

Those are 4 of my top 5 so far. [In reply to] Can't Post

This is loose, considering it is so early in the game.
I also like Gina.

The Kid, Sanjay, did okay. He has a nice voice, but I think he's too young for the competition.
Girls definitely out sang the boys.

But I have to say, I watch it for Simon.

The reason you are not impressed with anyone is BECAUSE YOU MISSED LAST NIGHT!

If you'd seen the show, you would be mightily impressed with a few of the girls. Like someone said above, it's all about the black girls this year. No question. They are in a completely different league, especially the last two I mentioned. None of the other girls can hold a candle to them.

The one girl Melinda, I just want to hug her and tell her how awesome she is. She is painfully shy and insecure about herself. But her stage presence is unbelievable, and it's almost like we're watching her develop as a singer, because she previously only stood in the background singing back-up. It's cool to see her discover herself.

It was so great after the guys lame show on Tuesday!
So many times good singers have gotten the boot, though. Jennifer Hudson (Yea, she is a little cross eyed, FoP, but remember her singing the Lion King?) and who was the big girl last year we really liked? She got booted off during country week. Chris Daughtry...
I haven't started voting yet. Does anyone vote? I vote for Top 12. If someone grabs me before that I will, but I haven't yet.

I am such a nerd.

Her name is Mandisa. She was my favorite too. I never voted too much, mainly because you can never get through.

My wife and I always loved George Huff (remember him). He was the only one I voted for with any regularity.

The Sinatra impersonator? He was horrible.

And that JPM kid (whatever his initials were) - he wasn't terrible, but he was very gimmicky. I always thought he tried out like as a joke for his frat house, but then ended up moving on and on further into the competition. I must say though, I liked his cover of Elvis' "A little less conversation."

Sundance [In reply to] Can't Post

had a truly great audition, but has been terrible ever since. "Nights in White Satin" -- give me a break! I think they put him through after Hollywood week just on the strength of his initial audition. I think some viewers like him for reasons other than his singing (classic nice-guy underdog), but unless he shows some talent soon, he'll be out of there.

But it's really about the women. IMHO, the right two got sent home tonight, but next week, I'd rather see four guys eliminated!
