TheOneRing.net is intimately tied to our friends in New Zealand. With the loss of life, injuries and damaged caused by the recent earthquake, we are all very concerned for our brothers and sisters. While you may be thousands of miles away, you can help. Here is a listing of charitable entities helping in the recovery efforts. We understand this is a tough economic time for many, but if you can, please support them. If you are unable to donate, please send your well wishing and prayers for those affected by this latest tragedy. Thanks to Ringer Beowulf for posting this link list in a previous thread comments.

to 2 sites that are giving regular updates and have links to maps, emergency information, etc. Canterbury Earthquake Earthquake Report I have emailed the Canterbury site to ask for an alternate Red Cross url and notify them that theirs is not working. I'm sure they know better than anyone, but just in case...
I really need these new films to take me back to, and not re-introduce me to, that magical world.

...does have the option for donations specifically for the NZ earthquake relief, so even though the NZ Red Cross link isn't working right now, donating through the AU link will still get to the right place!

I donated through the Aussie Red Cross, the NZ Red Cross is still down, but they are probably busy with much other things than checking if their website is working. Or hopefully it is just too busy with people donating.

I had no problems and I used my US credit card. I was glad to be able to 'earmark' the donation for NZ; not that these charities don't do great work all the time, but I didn't want to make a generic donation. Hope you can get it to work later, ADB!

The difficulties for Christchurch residents will take several months to work through, so donations further down the line will be gratefully received, I'm sure.

I saw Mark on TV saying that the Hobbit team were sending a truckload of aid to CHCH. Can’t find the video but there is an article here: Sir Peter Jackson sends aid to Christchurch It was reported on the news that Sir Peter Jackson and Little River has sent food, water and other supplies from Wellington down to Christchurch to help the devastated city. Actor Mark Hadlow (who will play Dori in The Hobbit) has been in Christchurch seeing first hand the damage created by Tuesday earthquake and checking upon family and friends. A visibly emotional Hadlow commmented that “its catastrophic” and found it hard to express his feelings and impressions what had happened to his home city. I was in Christchurch only last week and it is strange to see the damage, I feel for people who have lost friends and family, homes, jobs and their sense of security. Many people will want to help and you can through donating to the Red Cross Christchurch Earthquake Appeal, every little bit will make a big difference. As the Red Cross website has crashed you can try http://www.fundraiseonline.co.nz and choose Red Cross Christchurch Earthquake Appeal. Christchurch will rise again.

7: The Catholic Cathedral on Barbadoes St in the central city, much loved and regarded as one of the finest examples of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. It was significantly damaged in the first quake but there were plans for restoration. 28: Knox Church on the corner of Bealey Ave and Victoria St. It was damaged in the first quake and was in the process of being repaired. 38: Shops on the corner of Manchester/Lichfield/High St If you wanted to see what they looked like before Monday I imagine you could see them on Google Earth or something.

who have, thankfully, all checked in here... but it's such a devastion for them. If you look through this thread, Another big earthquake just struck Christchurch, you can see from the responses who is in the area and/or actually in the City. That we know of, none of the people related to the film were there when it hit, but aid has been sent by Jackson's team and some affiliated with the film are there to help. I am a bit of a privacy nut and really so not like sharing mu credit card numbers online. In the rare occasions I have made online orders/transactions I have sent money to friends and have them do it for me. Is there a snail mail addy to any of the AU/NZ organizations I can use to swend a donation to the old-fashioned way? I have done this in the past. I really want to do something--hey, my check will get there a few days late, coming from the US, but better late than never! I haven't even begun to look at photos of damage--reading the reports in the other thread is bad enough. Thank Go dall our sibs are OK but (((HUGS))) for Nienna and Pioneer, you don't sound like the "hugging" type but can I send in a big hug anyway? I Your analogy to "THe Road" is chilling--it would be so anywhere but NZ is not used to disasters like this--itreally is like q calmity hitting The Shire. Prayers from me for the friends and families of the sibs here and for all those affected. I'm overwelmed. And I'll say it in the other thread too tomorrow, but to Gramma and all who replied--thnaksfor your kind words about my losses. Much appreciated.(((HUGS)) back.

I thought they were the oldest and perhaps the most revered. How are things now with you? Are you getting basic needs?
