Geordie the billy goat who has spent to the last 20 years grazing on the side of a New Plymouth street is to star in The Hobbit. The goat who was in the news after he was spray-painted twice by vandals last year landed the role after a Facebook page established for him was spotted by a scout for the movie to be directed by Sir Peter Jackson, The Taranaki Daily News reported. "A scout rang and asked if we would allow Geordie to be in the movie", said owner Julie Field. "We said 'yes' and the scout went back to the producer, who saw photos of Geordie and wanted him". [Read More]

I don't know why TV3 news used a generic 'goat' photo when Geordie is such a character in his own right. He'll be great in The Hobbit! Maybe in the Shire?

not that I would have caught it, since I don't recall knowing about Geordie before now (though it's certainly possible that I forgot)

I'd say he's a safe bet for Baahrd.
In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit...

I thought the headline was saying that the actual TORnsib Geordie had landed a part in the film... I wasn't sure what to make of the 'billy goat' part, though.

that's what my mind skipped to immediately, except for when actually read the entire subject-line and clicked to see the thread It was made even better since geordie was joking about traveling to NZ to see if he could get a job as a Tolkien expert here

He will be played by a one horned old goat. (No insult intended.)

How many wrong turns does one's life have to take for one to find oneself spray-painting a goat?
Samuel L. Jackson for Bilbo, Woody Allen for Thorin, Lewis Black for Bard and Gilbert Gottfried for Smaug! MAKE IT HAPPEN, PETER!!!

By naming the official movie goat as "geordie", PJ clearly wants you to watch the movie!

I replaced the original picture on the Home Page with it. We can't be reporting on any imposters now. It'd be bad for TORn's reputation. Besides, you're right, the real Geordie looks so much more interesting! No wonder they wanted him for the movies.

Geordie is a corny una I know.....Baaaaaaaaad.
''Sam put his ragged orc-cloak under his master's head, and covered them both with the grey robe of Lorien; and as he did so his thoughts went out to that fair land, and to the Elves, and he hoped that the cloth woven by their hands might have some virtue to keep them hidden beyond all hope in this wilderness of fear...But their luck held, and for the rest of that day they met no living or moving thing; and when night fell they vanished into the darkess of Mordor.'' - - -rotk, chapter III May the grace of Manwë let us soar with eagle's wings!
In the air, among the clouds in the sky Here is where the birds of Manwe fly Looking at the land, and the water that flows The true beauty of earth shows With the stars of Varda lighting my way In all the realms this is where I stay In the realm of Manwë Súlimo
