Helen Kelly on radio: "Announcing to the world: the blacklist is off"
|
Can't Post
|
|
Just heard on the radio via web (amazing it works all the way to Sweden) "I'm announcing to the world that the blacklist is off, since sunday. SPADA knows and Warner knows, but they are holding the info" Walsh and Boyens also spoke and said that TH is "slipping from their hands" from NZ, but not entrirly lost. W&B also said that the blacklist was still on.
The greatest adventure is what lies ahead.

They say that they're still blacklisted. I'm confused and I don't know what to believe.

Fran Walsh only minutes ago on the same show that said the blacklist was still ON. She said go look at the SAG website, The Hobbit is still blacklisted and nothing has changed Helen Kelly says that last Sunday Warners were informed The Hobbit boycott has actually been lifted but Warners are holding back on releasing the press release. Very confusing.

The unions need to announce this and remove it from the SAG website, etc. She is incompetent and should lose her job over how she is handling this.

I'm very surprised that Fran Walsh is finally speaking.

For years she has been the silent partner with Peter so that the kids would have a 'normal' parent who is out of the spotlight. We haven't seen her on the DVD appendices, the press promotions or LOTR-related interviews. Now, for the first time, she's speaking publicly - and you can hear the frustration and anger in her voice. More than anything else, her public comments now indicate to me how precarious things are with The Hobbit being in NZ. Everything is such a mess now. It appears to me that there is miscommunication and suspicion left, right and centre. Please, everyone, stop pointing fingers, stop name-calling, breathe through your nose and try to achieve an 11th-hour solution with Warners. High horses are ugly and they're getting us nowhere.
Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..." Dwarves: "Pretty rings..." Men: "Pretty rings..." Sauron: "Mine's better." "Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded b*****d with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak. It looks like Warners want The Hobbit in the UK and NZ has to fight to get it 'back'

That was the impression that I got. Fran said Warners are scouting locations in the UK and talking to them about the studios where they shoot Harry Potter.... I think the situation now is PJ and co are going to have to try to fight to get The Hobbit back instead of fighting to keep it in NZ.

to hear Fran Walsh - maybe she'll become more prominent as her kids get older? I think they're both kinda heartbroken that it looks like they won't be filming in New Zealand.

Interesting info in statement from Helen Kelly

The union advised Warners on Sunday (their time) that they had asked the Screen Actors Guild to lift any "don't work" orders in place. A statement has been prepared by Equity but Warners have asked to control the time of the release and have delayed several days. We understand Wingnut were aware of this when they met with Technicians last night but failed to pass on this information. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/entertainment/news/article.cfm?c_id=1501119&objectid=10682058 Only a couple of hours ago on the radio Fran Walsh seemed to be totally unaware of this and said the production was still blacklisted as of right now. What the heck is going on?

that Kelly is saying the blacklist has been lifted and that the studio is with holding the press release.....did the union give the press release to the studio to take care of? Why would they say something stupid like that. If there 'was' a press release, why wouldn't the rest of the world know about it?
What's the matter, James? No glib remark? No pithy comeback?"

If they wanted to announce that the ban was off, they would have posted it on their website or sent a press realease. They would have to be rather stupid to give it to Warners if, as she pointed out so many times, they were suspecting that Warners was using this as an excuse to move the production to the UK. IT DOES NOT MAKE SENSE.
Please, give us back Glorfindel!!!

Independent journalist Russell Brown has a clear breakdown of exactly where NZEA has gone wrong with The Hobbit fiasco and its representation in general of actors. His comments about the Irish union's efforts vs the NZ union's actions are rather eye-opening.

Because everyone seems to be talking about them (or it) and I don't really get what that is.
You know you're cool when... -You have a nerd-spasm just because you walk by your Lord of the Rings Extended Edition DVDs. -You cry at the end of return of the king even though you've seen it about 13 times. -You check TOR.n for updates when you should be doing your geography project. -You would rather have Richard Taylor's autograph than Merryl Streep's. -You doodle Treebeard in the margins of your math homework. -Everything you say, or anyone else for that matter, relates to LotR even if it only makes sense to you.-by Gimli'sBox But if that's what I'm like... well than too bad for normal people!
