Movie Trivial Pursuit -- Week of June 4 Can't Post

Hi all:

Welcome to Movie Trivial Pursuit for the month of June!

Just to give you a heads up, Elvenhobbit and I are going to run these through the week of June 18, and then take a break for the rest of the summer. So you have three weeks to improve your scores before we announce the "winners" for this current round.

Between the ongoing Bakshi discussion, and the new things starting up, like Lossefalme's GOLD, Loresilme's MISC and Ohio Hobbit's History of the Movies idea (and a few others that I know are in the works) there will be plenty to talk about for quite awhile, so we thought it was a good time to take a "vacation".

We will also resume these Trivia quizzes in the fall, which gives all of you an excuse to watch the films again this summer if you haven't been a high scorer!

And now, on to the first week of Trivia for June.

Questions for the Week of June 4:

1. According to Grima, when did Theodred die?

2. When Gandalf tries to open the doors into Moria, what is the design element on the door that he first touches with his staff?

3. What is the shape of the stone table that Frodo places the One Ring on at the Council of Elrond?

4. What weapon does the Cave Troll first use to attack Legolas?

5. How far ahead are the Uruks when Legolas spots them with his elf eyes?

6. How many times has Frodo worn the One Ring by the end of Fellowship of the Ring?

Bonus Round:

7. How many seats are around the stone table at the Council of Elrond?

Reminders:
  • All questions are taken from the LOTR Movie Trilogy Trivial Pursuit Game.
  • Quizzes will be posted each Monday.
  • Answers and scores will be posted (by elvenhobbit) sometime the following week -- you have until at least next Sunday afternoon to play!

Thanks for playing and have fun!

Ok... [In reply to] Can't Post

1. According to Grima, when did Theodred die?
Just before teatime. About 4.15.

2. When Gandalf tries to open the doors into Moria, what is the design element on the door that he first touches with his staff?
(Tries to think of a non-rude answer)

A keyhole. Oops, wrong book...

3. What is the shape of the stone table that Frodo places the One Ring on at the Council of Elrond?
Star-shaped

4. What weapon does the Cave Troll first use to attack Legolas?
A shoe. Honestly, who throws a shoe?

5. How far ahead are the Uruks when Legolas spots them with his elf eyes?
Two feet and four inches... *oof*

6. How many times has Frodo worn the One Ring by the end of Fellowship of the Ring?
He wears it round his neck for most of the movie... So the question is really, how many times has Frodo not worn the One Ring.

Bonus Round:

7. How many seats are around the stone table at the Council of Elrond?
Three. Plus two loungers, a deck chair and a three piece suite.

And milking stools for the Hobbits.

Questions for the Week of June 4:

1. According to Grima, when did Theodred die? Sometime during the night...

2. When Gandalf tries to open the doors into Moria, what is the design element on the door that he first touches with his staff? Something in the center that spans both doors - I'll guess it's a gem/stone of some sort.

3. What is the shape of the stone table that Frodo places the One Ring on at the Council of Elrond? Circular?

4. What weapon does the Cave Troll first use to attack Legolas? The chain attached to his neck collar.

5. How far ahead are the Uruks when Legolas spots them with his elf eyes? Less than a day?

6. How many times has Frodo worn the One Ring by the end of Fellowship of the Ring? ooh, good question...I can only remember 4 times. So 4 it is.

Bonus Round:

7. How many seats are around the stone table at the Council of Elrond? I think 13, including Elrond's.

1. Sometime in the night

2. A star?

3. Octagon

4. A chain?

5, Hmmm. I remember him saying they turned Northeast, and that they were taking the hobbits to Isengard. Also that they were gaining on them. But I do not recall him saying how far ahead they were.

6. Three? The prancing pony, weathertop, and parth galen

7. Hmmm. five men, nine elves, three dwarves and one hobbit. 18?

Questions for the Week of June 4:

1. According to Grima, when did Theodred die? Sometime in the night.

2. When Gandalf tries to open the doors into Moria, what is the design element on the door that he first touches with his staff? A star? The sun? The words? I'll say a star. Final answer.

3. What is the shape of the stone table that Frodo places the One Ring on at the Council of Elrond? Well, the top is round. It's a pedastle table. Is that what you're asking?

4. What weapon does the Cave Troll first use to attack Legolas? Uuummm, his big, honkin' club thing?

5. How far ahead are the Uruks when Legolas spots them with his elf eyes? Hmmm. I know they have turned ... "They're taking the hobbits to Isengard." I don't know how far ahead they were. Less than a day? Ugh. I have to stop reading and start watching!

6. How many times has Frodo worn the One Ring by the end of Fellowship of the Ring? Good grief. Let's see. There's Bree, Weathertop, Amon Hen...that's all I remember. I'll guess three.

Bonus Round:

7. How many seats are around the stone table at the Council of Elrond? Twelve? I don't know. That's just a guess. There were quite a few, though.

Sheesh. This was UUUUgly! I need to look at the Geeky Observation Lists and see if they have this kind of stuff in there! Thanks again. Have a great week, weaver!

I'm beginning to be ashamed of myself. [In reply to] Can't Post

I usually win when I play LOTR Trival Pursuit! Perhaps you have the extra-hard edition...Wink

Anyway.

1) Sometime in the night.
2) I'm not sure if he actually touches the words with his staff while he's reading them... I'll say it's one of the star-like symbols that he puts his staff against while trying to open the doors.
3) Not circular... I think... Octagonal?
4) A really big club. Hammer. Thing.
5) Less than a day, but I'm thinking it should be in leagues. Three leagues. I have no idea.
6) Four, that I can think of. But it must be more than that.

7) There's no way I'm going to guess this one. 20.

I really need to watch the movies again (that, or play trivial pursuit more often).

Cheers,
wolfranger

I admit, I am deliberately picking the hardest questions! [In reply to] Can't Post

I originally thought I'd just post the questions from one card a week, but some of those are just way too easy -- as in, name the actor who played Sam.

But if I'm being too tough with these, just say so! That goes for all of you who are playing --- my goal is to make these challenging, not depress you!SmileEvil

It's just as well that you take a break... [In reply to] Can't Post

... 'cause I may be taking a break myself down south the week after the last quiz, thanks to the family bullying me into it.

1. According to Grima, when did Theodred die?

"He must have died during the night."

Yeah, right... with a little help from yours truly, no doubt.

Slimeball.

2. When Gandalf tries to open the doors into Moria, what is the design element on the door that he first touches with his staff?

The star in the middle.

Somehow I think it was the international symbol for "Pull", but Gandalf just didn't get it.

3. What is the shape of the stone table that Frodo places the One Ring on at the Council of Elrond?

I'd say it was octagonal, except for each side was somewhat curved.

You are referring to the shape of the table and not the star in the middle, right? RIGHT?!

4. What weapon does the Cave Troll first use to attack Legolas?

His chain.

It was actually a cheap knock-off that Legolas had given him on his last birthday, instead of a real gold chain, and he decided to show his displeasure with said tarnished object.

5. How far ahead are the Uruks when Legolas spots them with his elf eyes?

As per Aragorn, "less than a day ahead".

*suddenly can't get "They are taking the Hobbits to Isengard!" song out of head*

6. How many times has Frodo worn the One Ring by the end of Fellowship of the Ring?

Do you mean on his person or around his neck or finger?

From the events that occur in FOTR, this is what I remember seeing:

4 times the ring hanging from the chain given to him in Rivendell: 1 ) with Bilbo when he starts undoing his shirt to try on the Mithril mailshirt, 2 ) when he loses the ring on Caradhras and Boromir picks it up, 3 ) the scene with Galadriel's mirror, 4 ) on the shores of Parth Galen, remembering Gandalf's words in Moria (strange that we see it on the chain in this scene, when moments before the chain was missing when he showed the ring to Aragorn when he demanded to know where it was... Continuity, people! *grumble grumble*)

3 times on his finger: 1 ) at the Prancing Pony, 2 ) when the Ringwraiths attack on Weathertop, 3 ) when Boromir attacks him at Amon Hen

8 times in the palm of his hand: 1 ) when he finds the ring on the floor of Bag End, 2 ) when Gandalf removes it from the fire and tells him to hold out his hand to catch it, 3 ) when he picks up from the kitchen table and offers to hide it and then, realizing getting rid of it is not an option, asks Gandalf what he must do, 4 ) when they run from the first Black Rider into the woods, 5 ) in Rivendell, when he agrees with Sam that he's ready to go home, 6 ) when he offers it to Galadriel, 7 ) after Boromir attacks him, he asks Aragorn if he would destroy it, 8 ) on the shores of Parth Galen, remembering Gandalf's words in Moria

3 times in his coat pocket: 1 ) in the Shire, before Gandalf leaves for Isengard and he and Sam head for Bree, 2 ) when the Ringwraith attack on Weathertop, 3 ) at Parth Galen just before he takes the boat

3 times fingering the ring: 1 ) informing Gandalf of the fiery letters on the band in Bag End, 2 ) at the Prancing Pony, under the table, 3 ) holding it up to the Witch King at Weathertop... and reluctantly placing it on the pedestal at the Council of Elrond, but you can't really call that fingering.

So that's 3 times in his coat pocket, 4 times on a chain, 3 times on his finger, 8 times in the palm of his hand, 3 times fingering it

I'm bad at math... how much does that add up to?

Bonus Round:

7. How many seats are around the stone table at the Council of Elrond?

No idea...again... HELLO! BOROMIR!!!!

*AHEM!*

This is just a guess from memory of what I saw a few weeks ago, starting with Frodo...

Frodo, Gandalf, four Elves (including Legolas), four Dwarves (including Gimli), four Humans (including Boromir, two more Elves, Aragorn and Figwit... and at the head, Elrond and his two advisors...

Again... bad at math... um.... 21?

clarifications to clear up any confusion! [In reply to] Can't Post

Good thing we've scheduled a break for these contests -- I'm confusing myself with these questions!

To clarify some things for this round:

1. On the stone table question, we're talking about the shape of the entire table, not just part of the design on it.

2. For the question on how many times Frodo wears the Ring in FOTR, we're only talking about the times he wears it on his finger...but I am amazed at die dye's comprehensive list of all the times Frodo is shown with the Ring, which should make the list of Geeky Observations!

3. For the number of seats in the Bonus Question, Elrond's is included in the count.

Hope this helps and if any of you who answered want to adjust your answers based on this new information, I will personally vouch for you with Scorekeeper Elvenhobbit to allow you to revise your entry!

Surely I can do better this week (isthe Mediocraty bench handy?) [In reply to] Can't Post

1. According to Grima, when did Theodred die?
"sometime during the night" and possibly with a little help.

2. When Gandalf tries to open the doors into Moria, what is the design element on the door that he first touches with his staff?

We waves his staff over the writing, then pushes on the star in the middle.

3. What is the shape of the stone table that Frodo places the One Ring on at the Council of Elrond?
It's round, but with scalloped edges. What, you want me to *count* the scallops?

4. What weapon does the Cave Troll first use to attack Legolas?
His leash (chain.

5. How far ahead are the Uruks when Legolas spots them with his elf eyes?
"less than a day", but I wouldn't put too much faith in Legolas' sense of timing any more than his sense of direction.

6. How many times has Frodo worn the One Ring by the end of Fellowship of the Ring?
Let's see -- Bree, where he meets Strider; Weathertop, where he meets the Witch King; and Parth Galen, to escape Boromir (who in their right might wants to escape Boromir? Not the fan girls, at any rate, including me)

Bonus Round:

7. How many seats are around the stone table at the Council of Elrond?
Counting Mirkwood elves, Rivendell elves, dwarves, hobbits, wizards and MEN, Elrond, and his two assistants? co-chairs?) I think it comes up to about 22.
