TORnadoes forcast for San Diego, Atlanta conventions Can't Post

TheOneRing.net has been invited and will attend popular culture conventions on both coasts as we present live at the San Diego Comic-Con and Atlanta's DragonCon. Each convention will feature staff from TORn talking about the very latest news and spy reports on the Hobbit front and any other news tidbits we can get our hands on. We always try to bring guests either live or by video message and have time for fans to ask questions and interact.
Comic-Con: TORn will open the first full day of the convention with a panel featuring founders/staffers Calisuri, Quickbeam and MrCere with Weta expected to have something to say as well. In addition, TORn staffers will likely be found at the Weta booth and at Slave Boy Films' booth with unique TORn t-shirts available at each. TORn panel: Thursday, July 22, 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. room 7AB.
DragonCon: TORn will spend Labor Day weekend at a fan table provided at one of the hotels of the convention selling shirts, running contests, giving items away and getting a lot of face time with fellow fans. In addition, TORn will present the latest Hobbit news at the show, perhaps as many as three times with staffers Deej, greendragon and MrCere. The convention features a whole weekend of Tolkien programming with lectures, presentations, and guests including Sean Astin. The event includes all-night festivities and fellowship and costuming that never ends. TORn panel: TBA

Great subject line. :) [In reply to] Can't Post

That DragonCon presentation will be interesting to pull together. How on earth are you going to boil down everything that has happened lately with The Hobbit?

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..."
Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."
Men: "Pretty rings..."
Sauron: "Mine's better."

"Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded b*****d with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak.

I love opening SDCC on a high note.

I'm getting ready for the insanity - errr, I mean fun! - of both conventions. [In reply to] Can't Post

SDCC and DragonCon are both great fun, and it's a pleasure to hang out with TORn sibs and fellow geeks, but at the end of the weekend i'm always ready for a long nap. Tongue

SDCC tix made available [In reply to] Can't Post

Check the SDCC website now, they are reselling tickets that were returned.

As to why would anyone want to go to San Diego, it is considered the playground of California, so I imagine the wonderful weather, the world renowned zoo and wild animal park, the beaches, the food, the gaslamp district in Downtown, Sea World, the Padres, the Chargers, Scripps Marine Institute, the race track at Del Mar, the hot air balloon rides in Del Mar, the Star of India, the cruise terminals, and, you know, stuff.

Star of India [In reply to] Can't Post

I quite recommend touring the old ships that include The Star of India. I reluctantly paid money for that and then found it wonderful.

I'll be heading over to Coronado Island mid-day on Wednesday when I first arrive to tour the Hotel Del Coronado. I'm quite looking forward to it, it has such a rich history.

Have fun, everyone who's going [In reply to] Can't Post

I won't be at either one, but my husband will be working at Comic-Con. If he has time, I'll ask him to stop by the TORn table to say hi and maybe buy a shirt.

I'm looking forward to it... [In reply to] Can't Post

as my family and I have tickets for all week, including the preview night.

One question thought. Has (or does) anybody ever bother putting together a list of "Tolkien" related locations, events and meetings at Comic Con? The one thing about Comic Con is that their supporting material, calendar of events and such is kind of confusing and disjointed. Plus there is a lot that goes on at Comic Con that doesn't make it into the written guides. I was just wondering if anybody has heard of someone at this site or some other Tolkien related site that goes to the trouble of "combing" the Comic Con schedules for Tolkien related content. Thanks.

Some Tolkien / TORn related goodness at Comic Con [In reply to] Can't Post

There have been a few things posted here and there on Tolkien/TORn-related activities at Comic Con:

- First and foremost - the TORn panel listed in this thread! If you can make it to the panel, please make sure to say hi to the TORn staff.

- Weta's booth (# 2615 in the dealers room) will surely have some Lord of the Rings fans hanging around -not to mention Sir Richard Taylor! -as well as a TORn staffer or 2.

- Ditto for the Sideshow Collectables booth (not sure of the booth number, but trust me - you can't miss it!)

- From the Home page: Fellow TORn message board member Guillermo del Toro will be at the Gentle Giant booth on Saturday, July 24 to promote the new line of Pan’s Labyrinth figures.

Once the schedule is up I can go through it and look for any other panels of interest.

Be sure you get [In reply to] Can't Post

some pictures or video of that for us. Laugh

"Of all faces those of our familiares are the ones both most difficult to play fantastic tricks with, and most difficult really to see with fresh attention. They have become like the things which once attracted us by their glitter, or their colour, or their shape, and we laid hands on them, and then locked them in our hoard, acquired them, and acquiring ceased to look at them.
Creative fantasy, because it is mainly trying to do something else [make something new], may open your hoard and let all the locked things fly away like cage-birds. The gems all turn into flowers or flames, and you will be warned that all you had (or knew) was dangerous and potent, not really effectively chained, free and wild; no more yours than they were you."
