Tobey Maguire in talks to play Bilbo?

Latino Review seems to think so: http://www.latinoreview.com/...ing-hobbit-feet-8786 Okay, first of all, Maguire would essentially have to live in New Zealand for the 14-15 month shoot from mid-2010 to mid-2011. But this would make it impossible for him to film Spider-man 4 this year, which he is signed for. I don't see any logical way for this to work out. Still, Latino Review isn't The Sun. They have gotten solid news before. They were the first ones to break Heath Ledger's casting in The Dark Knight. Logic dictates that this is just a rumor, but I don't know. I trust LR checked their sources. I, for one, don't approve of this choice. While I am an advocate of Del Toro recasting Bilbo, I'd prefer a talented actor who bears some resemblance to Ian Holm, so that the transition from TH to the FoTR prologue isn't so drastic. Thoughts?

eh.. not who I'd choose by a long shot! "While I am an advocate of Del Toro recasting Bilbo, I'd prefer a talented actor who bears some resemblance to Ian Holm, so that the transition from TH to the FoTR prologue isn't so drastic." I agree with this 100% percent.

He certainly looks lika Elijah's cousin or half brother, or something like that. I don't really see him in the role but he's a good actor, he could pull it off.
Please, give us back Glorfindel!!!

Why do they assume it's Bilbo that he is in talks for??

He might play someone else ... an orc ... an elf ... another Hobbit ... he didn't really spill the beans on what part he is interested in. Also, some agency saying it might be Bilbo is not the most reliable source for anything. Then again ... he is a great actor, though Spider-Man hasn't brought out his best side. And he looks a bit like the young Ian Holm ... BUT he is American, isn't he? Can he do a proper English accent? I doubt it. Bilbo ought to be very British. But let's see whether Tobey really is in talks for Bilbo and not someone else.

I think, the Hobbit doesn't need any more stars. There are already enough. Please let Bilbo be portrayed by a quite unknown actor.

John Simm was only this week confirmed to be playing Hamlet at the Sheffield crucible from June...So I think we can now count him out. I know they are seeing unknowns for Bilbo and something tells me they will go with a complete unknown...not what I thought a few weeks ago but as I discover more about how casting is unfolding in London I def think it may be an unknown. : D

Fan speculation has been running rampant for the past year. First it was rumored that James McAvoy was a contender until Peter Jackson debunked that rumor. Then Daniel Radcliffe was making the rumor mill until he personally said, “Thanks. But no thanks.” I don't remember them "debunking" James McAvoy... Daniel Radcliffe was debunked by his own admission... I think this news syndication is trying to stir up international attention...

As much as I like Tobey (Spider-Man crying not included), this isn't true according to my sources.

As much as I like Spider-man, I have to admit, Toby Maguire is no hobbit! Frodo is supposed to look young, like a robust hobbit just out of his tweens. But Bilbo gets the Ring AFTER 50, he should look like he's about 40 or so, the Ring keeps him looking about 40 and 50's when he's older, unlike Frodo who inherits the Ring earlier in his life. But I do like the idea of James McAvoy, he looks old enough to do something like this.

I can just hear it now: Bilbo: Old fat spider spinning in a tree! Even with 'spi-dey sense' you can't see me!

Koru: Maori symbol representing a fern frond as it opens. The koru reaches towards the light, striving for perfection, encouraging new, positive beginnings.

ONE Website blog listed Radcliffe on a poll question. He was NEVER actually said by anybody at anytime to be thought of for Bilbo but internet people desperate for news reported it like it was possible and it got a life of its own. It never even had a source or was said by the originator to be rumored. It never was. Very poor journalistic standards at work. The Latino Review, by the way, is more solid than that and in that article it says the writer asked around in a way about Toby M. that I consider to be responsible. Of course Calisuri / Xoanon updating the post on MAIN and saying it isn't true is something I personally would bank on 100%.
