Made it to Matamata ... Can't Post

Well I made it this far Smile Ive been in Auckland for a day, (yesterday) and couldn't wait to get started on my LOTR get-about ..

Im on the internet at the Hobbit Hole Internet Cafe in Matamata, just down the street from the information centre, and soon I'll be off on my Hobbiton Tour.
The weather is a little rainy today, but it looks as if it might clear for a nice trip to Hobbiton ... the 'Shire' looks very green and beautiful.
... and I have been shopping in Matamata and there are plenty of Hobbity things to buy. I went to the jewellery shop, and bought my OneRing and chain - Im happy now Smile

Yesterday I went to Port Waikato and drove the route to see the area where they filmed the watch tower of Amon Sul scene - Im not sure exactly which place they filmed at, I think that bit is inaccessable, but the landscape is dramatic, it is a wonderous place - breathtakingly beautiful and so peaceful. Besides the great landscapes in the area, Ive never seen so many wild turkeys and little chicks running around. Lots of sheep and cows as well. I took some lunch and had a little picnic near a stream before leaving there - I took photos, but I'll have to load them up later.

On my way to Mordor territory tomorrow. Hope I can get some photos to you soon.

Cheers
Elven x

The weather for Mordor looks good. [In reply to] Can't Post

:)

I just checked the MetService website and the Taupo area will be mostly sunny and warm tomorrow - do not forget to wear sunblock! It may not seem hot enough for sunburn but you will burn quickly regardless.

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..."
Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."
Men: "Pretty rings..."
Sauron: "Mine's better."

"Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded b*****d with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak.

Elven it does look all very inviting [In reply to] Can't Post

from your relating. I hope you a (continued) wondrous time and yes it would be lovely to have a photo or two but i would like you to abandon yourself to joy on your travels. That comes first:).

''Sam put his ragged orc-cloak under his master's head, and covered them both with the grey robe of Lorien; and as he did so his thoughts went out to that fair land, and to the Elves, and he hoped that the cloth woven by their hands might have some virtue to keep them hidden beyond all hope in this wilderness of fear...But their luck held, and for the rest of that day they met no living or moving thing; and when night fell they vanished into the darkess of Mordor.'' - - -rotk, chapter III

May the grace of Manwë let us soar with eagle's wings!

In the air, among the clouds in the sky
Here is where the birds of Manwe fly
Looking at the land, and the water that flows
The true beauty of earth shows
With the stars of Varda lighting my way
In all the realms this is where I stay
In the realm of Manwë Súlimo

It's so amazing that you're really there, Elven! I know it can be tough finding time to load pictures, but I am sure looking forward to seeing them when you get a chance! Take pics of all the Hobbity stuff you picked up too! Are you wearing the Ring now?!?

Enjoy the rest of your trip Smile!

I second what Ataahua said about sunblock. I burned when it was cloudy in NZ.

Where now the horse and the rider?

All right! Enjoy! [In reply to] Can't Post

The Gaffer and I loved Hobbiton -- my avatar is a photo of the party tree there. Our guide was hopeful that Bagshot Row would some day be reconstructed, and I'm hoping that this has now happened. Please report back!

Do we walk in legends or on the green earth in the daylight?

A man may do both. For not we but those who come after will make the legends of our time. The green earth, say you? That is a mighty matter of legend, though you tread it under the light of day!
