THFG Can't Post

Has anyone had any problems streaming THFG? I don't know if it's due to a lot of people trying to watch it all at once or something, but all I get when I click on the link is a message saying "We're sorry, but we cannot display this content because it has been labelled private by it's author". Anyone else experiencing this?

I'm experiencing no problems [In reply to] Can't Post

I am watching it at the moment in HD using http://www.thehuntforgollum.com/player_film-hd.htm. it is fine and looks very atmospheric.

I only started watching it 10 mins ago. So there might have been a rush at 3.00pm to watch it which caused problems. Or the link you are using goes to a part of the site not normally available for public use.

I don't have time to watch it at work, and there is a lot of noise to distract, but it worked for at least five minutes, although I didn't try it in HD.

It was GREAT!!! [In reply to] Can't Post

The first time I tried to load it the player only got about 10sec in, but after I reloaded it everything worked fine. As for the movie...it brought me back and now I want more. All of it was done very well, the acting, fighting, CGI, storytelling, etc. Very pleased. I certainly hope that Born of Hope will be this good.

I used the link on the HFG page and nothing. I tried the HQ verson and while it plays, it's very choppy and doesn'y play smoothly. I'll try waiting a little while to see if perhaps it just the mass of people trying to watch it. Either that or my computer is just being stupid...as usual. Mad

I had no problems loading it and i really enjoyed it. It's and inspiration to tolkien fans everwhere i think. They did it so proffesionally. i just wish i could've been a part of it. I sure hope that Born of Hope is that good too! I hope you can get it going because it's worth it.

Spoilers ahead :)

I thought the other Ranger would play more of a role, so I was surprised how he sort of just disappeared. Slightly disappointed- I wanted to see more of him :P I absolutely loved the orcs, and the orc fight scene was very well done. Loved the final battle at the end. The fight with the Ringwraith was also fun, and it was nice to see that a whole bunch of elves with fire have some effect on him.

Definitely a very well done piece, considering the price it was done at! A great tribute to Tolkien fans everywhere.

I thought it was good [In reply to] Can't Post

especially to know it's back ground. It was like fan fiction come to life and I commend them for taking the project on. I'm glad for the most part (other than gollum) they didn't feel they had to stay strictly to how their characters looked compared to PJ's crew. I didn't mind that Gandalf's hair was wild nor that Arwen didn't look like Liv Tyler. My only visual gripe was personal...Aragorn's eyes looked like Elijah Woods...and they creeped me out. Sly

copied and pasted from the thread I was writing at the same time this was posted. [In reply to] Can't Post

I just finished watching it. I was pretty impressed! How about you? What did you think?

I'm amazed they were able to put together such and talented team! The production, acting, music, make-up, costumes, cg etc. was extremely done. It's hard to believe this was a fan film.

So what was your favorite part? If you're like me you'll have to watch it a few more times before you pick a true fav, but just your initial thoughts.

What were some of the things that stood out to you?

What did you think about the actors/actresses and how they compare to Ian, Viggo, Liv and Andy?

Aragorn- Wow does he look similar to Viggo! I thought he was about as consistent as can be for Aragorn in mannerisms, looks and body language.

Gandalf- He doesn't look like Ian, but he was somewhat close, too much hair was the biggest standout to me, but his Gandalf was so close to Ian's in body language and mannerisms, the difference in looks were easily forgotten.

Arwen- The difference in appearance was most noticeable with her, but she played the part very well and had similar tones to her voice.

Gollum- Of course the biggest comparison to Andy here would be voice and I thought Gollum's voice was excellent! Very consistent to Andy's Gollum. And even though there wasn't alot of close-up Gollum (I can imagine how much work it is, the LOTR appendices makes that pretty clear, which makes this fan cg work that much more impressive!), when there was it looked pretty consistent as well. The eyes stood out the most to me. They were VERY similar.

If I had to sum it up I would say that was by far the best Fan Film I have ever seen, the quality went above and beyond that of anything I would expect in a fan film. It was very impressive and quite worthy of being included in a Tolkien fans collection.

Wow. The passion and commitment of the everyone who helped create this move shows through in every scene and I feel very fortunate to be able to enjoy this film. I sincerely appreciate the hard work, commitment and sacrifices made by the people involved to make this film a reality.

absolutely brilliant.

Since it was done by fans completely, that was the most amzing, professional piece of work i have seen from Tolkien enthusiasts.

Wow, i gonna watch it later again. I love the masks done for the orcs.

Tell me, when can i buy that one on DVD ??? It is missing in my Movie collection.

Applause *giving standing ovation*

I'm pretty sure you can't buy this film, ever, since it would be a violation of a zillion copyright laws... But I'll find a way to send these fab THFG-people some well-deserved cash in one way or another. Or maybe there is some way to FORCE them to make some more of this stuff? Hrm.

Loved it.

This is quoted off THFG site. Link is below too.

Alternative streaming links will be available here from the 10th May, or in the unlikely event of major technical difficulties with Dailymotion's streaming service.

***A download version will not be made available due to copyright reasons. ***

The film is for streaming only but we will upload it to other free streaming sites
on the 10th of May.

You marked the number of views [In reply to] Can't Post

In your article- just a few hours later and that number has basically doubled. The view count does not even count all the views seen on the official website.

I would not be surprised if it surpassed over 100k views on both sites by the end of the day (err, PST day...). May already have.

found another site [In reply to] Can't Post

I had the same problem with the main site, but googled and found another site and watched it just now, along with the 'making of' video.....it was cool, and homage to Jackson, and wait til you see how many people worked on this for free!!?? apparently they started small, but as word spread many people wanted to get on board....so it ended up with the end credits looking like a first rate movie production.....I was expected ten dudes in a forest, with some fire and a camera....lol

Actually, I am wondering if the number of views includes both sites. When you watch from the main site, the bar at the bottom still says dailymotion.com. So it appears Daily Motion is hosting for both sites. This would be similar to watching a YouTube video on another site, I think.

Thanks! [In reply to] Can't Post

Thanks for the info!

Well, I've seen the film, and I must say it's the best fan film I've ever seen, though it was not perfect. There were a few unnecesary CGI shots: the Ring on the table and falling in the cave, and I think the could've found a real exterior shot instead of the CGI one of the Prancing Pony. But those are minor quibbles, Gollum was great, the acting was quite good, and it feels like it could belong to the movie Trilogy.
Great work indeed!

The Making of [In reply to] Can't Post

That production film was as fascinating as any of the LotR appendices for the PJ films. I am amazed that they managed to keep the cost so low. They must have been given use of equipment, locations for free. And was the music synth or live?

All very well done and very few glitches considering how it was made. Many of the CGI shots were very well rendered. I was taken in by the passage over the Misty Mountains - I was convinced that North Wales had such snowy peaks.

watching on your TV [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm a newbie here, but I've got a solution. Not sure if it "breaks" copyright, you guys can tell me.

Here goes:

1) use firefox
2) download and install the "DownloadHelper" addon
3) navigate to the HD DailyMotion page where THFG is showing
4) left-click the spinning "DownloadHelper" icon next to your address bar in FF. It should show a dropdown line which has the flv (flash video file) which DailyMotion is playing.
5) left click the dropdown line, and the file should start to download to your computer.

Now you have it. It may take a while as it comes to around 295mb.

If, like me you want to watch it on your big-screen HD telly, try this:

1) download and install Avidemux 2.5 (google search will help you) Avidemux is the most comprehensive editor/converter I have found that is 100% free, so no trials or limitations etc.
2) use Avidemux to load up the flv file you have just downloaded. In the program you can specify all the video parameters that you want, to get the most out of the video.
3) save the file

This took my computer about 1 hr to convert and the finished file size was just a shade under 1GB. I then burned the file onto Bluray and then hey presto: HD Tolkien loveliness.

Hope this helps. Loved the film

P.S. you can use Avidemux to downgrade the file to play on ipods/iphones etc.
