Fins at the Party

Since many people have expressed confusion concerning the characters in "The Silmarillion", and since rumors abound that we'll discuss the Sil after "The Hobbit", I thought I'd propose a sort of rollplayish exercise in getting them firmly into our heads. TORn, is, as you know, in the midst of a party. Picture as many Sil characters at the party as you want. What would they do? How would they interact? Who would bring what? Who would break what? Who'd be the life of the party and who'd have a run-in with the bouncers, and why? Who'd wear what? Who'd skinny-dip in the pool? Who'd arrive first, who would show up fashionably late, who'd help the hosts and hostesses, who'd make a mess, and who'd clean up? What else might happen? I figure that if enough of us throw out some thoughts on the matter, all of us will have some pretty strong mental images to go with the names, preparatory to the readalong. I should add that this was a last-minute idea, not an authorized part of the festivities, and if it flops I take full responsibility.
Life is beautiful and dangerous! Beware! Enjoy!

As a first effort, this is not great, but to get the ball rolling, I went with some groups of Elves rather than individuals. So, at TORn's 10th Anniversary party, - The Vanyar are hanging out with the Admins and founders
- Having helped make all the shiny decorations, the Noldor are involved in the Pollantir debate over what to call the present "Age" of TORn, acing all the "quiz" games, and fighting over the party favors.
- The Teleri arrived late, but they're making some great music!
- The Sindar are having their own private party to which outsiders *cough* Noldor *cough* are not invited
- The Avari never showed up. They did get an invitation, right?

Finwe arrived with the Kin'o'fin clan--so called due to their kinship with the King of the Noldor--Finwe. - His eldest son, Feanor, was a bit of a hot head (and as usual over accessorized) and ended up being *bounced* before the party's end.
- Finwe's second son, Fingolfin, carried along his bag of clubs--just in case--(he'd seen what Uncle Buck could do to to an undesirable suiter with a club and ball...).
Later--after getting word that the no good so and so Eol was trying to get daugher Aredhel a bit tipsy, "Mr Golf" dealt speedily with that situation. (Sadly, she had been rather fascinated by Eol's dark good looks and the relationship ended up on the rocks.) - Youngest son, Finarfin, much to the embarrassment of his children, asked for a doggie bag.
His son, Finrod, got bored of the festivities and went fishing in a nearby lake. Daughter, Galadriel, wandered over to a handsome stranger named Celeborn--photos of this famous couple were subsequently posted on TORn.

Oh man, these are great! Beren and Luthien in costume especially had me in stitches. And Eol taking advantage of Aredhel. But I think I hear some noise out in the garden, where Feanor has started his own counter-party. And Finrod Felagund has shown up with some scruffy bipedal pets which he insists can not only talk but sing.

I was wracking my brain trying to think of something, and something very much like that was all that popped into my mind.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "For DORA BAGGINS in memory of a LONG correspondence, with love from Bilbo; on a large wastebasket. Dora was Drogo's sister, and the eldest surviving female relative of Bilbo and Frodo; she was ninety-nine, and had written reams of good advice for more than half a century." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "A Chance Meeting at Rivendell" and other stories leleni at hotmail dot com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
tried to make a big to do as they exited--rambling on and chanting "we're not gonna take it anymore...". They were sucessful in enticing several others to come along. Maedhros promised to get a nice big fire going ---little realizing what a big role fire would later play in his life Maglor offered to do a sing-a-long to Tommy--he had a bit too much ale and dropped his mike in a big tub of melted ice and was later heard mumbling Thingol....Wizard Celegorm was up for wowing everybody with his ability to communicate with animals--the mighty Huan was not pleased to be put on pet parade duty and would, in time, serve up some pay back to Celegorm but that's a Luthien story and for another time...) Caranthir wasn't in a party mood--still a bit upset over Haleth's declining his offer of protection Curufin aka "Crafty"-party pooper #2--too busy plotting trouble for his cousins Amrod and Amras--not to be mistaken with those other twins!
Aulë, whose music became ME, is in Main coming up with songs for LOTR characters and posting favourite parodies from the past. Vairë is in Main too, telling long stories about the things that happened on the boards in various Ages. And Menelwyn totally nailed Nienna!
Lúthien Rising All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us. / We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.
