It seems there is solid LOTR Blu-ray news Can't Post

I apologize if this has already been posted, I could not find it if it has been.

This quite reliable Web site www.thedigitalbits.com has posted that in December we will have LOTR on Blu-Ray.

Digitalbits says, "Word from a couple of readers is that select FYE stores had signs up last week revealing that Warner Home Video will be releasing New Line's Lord of the Rings Trilogy on Blu-ray Disc in December. Some stores may even have begun taking preorders. This includes all three films. The titles are not yet listed on the company's website, but our industry sources have informed us that the studio's current plans do indeed call for all three films, The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King, to be released on Blu-ray in early December on Blu-ray in their original theatrical versions."

There is more to the story you can read it all here.

Since it is only the theatrical edition and not the extended with very little extras (read the story) I wouldn't buy it. I will wait for the grand, deluxe, super, on-steroids, extra special version that is down the road only a bit.

Thoughts?

I have no choice but to believe in free will.

I'll wait. [In reply to] Can't Post

Funny that, we've been discussing this sort of thing elsewhere the last couple of day's...
ESP ! lol

I'm with you. I'll wait for the thermonuclear, warp factor 10, two-mile high skyscraper, Peter Jackson eye's bulging out of his head in an OTT frenzy, gleaming gold polished, platinum burnished, diamond sparking.....etc
..........Version!

(Preferably with a 3-D, rotating hologram of "the one ring" about a foot above the box! lol. OK, now i'm getting a wee bit silly!)

Promotional material have already been produced [In reply to] Can't Post

It is also being reported that promotional materials have already been produced. VideoBusiness.com reports that "Warner is promoting an upcoming Blu-ray bow of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring in marketing material packed into its Oct. 14 Blu-ray Poltergeist release." http://www.videobusiness.com/blog/830000483/post/1120034312.html

To answer the question: I don't have a Blu-ray player, but I may have one by 2011. Wink

Me Too [In reply to] Can't Post

Like the comments so far, I am planning to wait for the LOTR-EE Blu-Ray releases before I buy them. I also do not own a a Blu-Ray player but had always planned on purchasing one once the LOTR-EE editions were available, unless streaming-movie technology becomes the better choice. I want all the goodies!

Except for the streaming tech. I'd rather own a physical piece of unchangeable hardware to view as I see fit even when completely disconnected from the internet and the entire outside world.

Poltergeist on Blu-ray? [In reply to] Can't Post

The dated special effects are dodgy enough on ordinary video, let alone DVD. How would Blu-ray be a good call here - so we can see just how incredibly dodgy they are?

Or I wonder if the makers are re-doing the SFX? Hmmm....

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..."
Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."
Men: "Pretty rings..."
Sauron: "Mine's better."

"Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded b*****d with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak.

They're here... [In reply to] Can't Post

...or not ;)

I'd rather they leave the original dodgy fx than to try and fix them. To me, it's part of their charm. But you're right, having them enhanced would not be an improvement, imho.

I really need these new films to take me back to, and not re-introduce me to, that magical world.

Funny story: [In reply to] Can't Post

The last time I saw Poltergeist was perhaps six years ago, when I watched it with two younger friends. We got to the scene with the daughter sitting in front of the static-filled television, when she turns and says, "They're heeeere!"

Both my friends burst out with, "THAT'S where that comes from!"

How could they have not know this already?

Young people these days! ;)

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..."
Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."
Men: "Pretty rings..."
Sauron: "Mine's better."

Can't imagine. [In reply to] Can't Post

Mainly serious fans will want it, and serious fans want MORE! PJ promised!

I just hope that lousy sales of the theatrical versions don't keep them from releasing the Super-Extended Mega Edition (with outtakes, extra scenes, ... )

I wonder how the figures compare for [In reply to] Can't Post

sales vs rentals.

I am way less likely to buy a movie these days now that it is so easy to rent one via Netflix. Are people buying a lot of bluray or renting them? If it's rental, then maybe they won't care about extras. When I rent a movie, if there is a disc of extras, I rarely rent it. It doesn't seem worth the bother especially if it keeps another movie from coming to the house.

Agreed [In reply to] Can't Post

I haven't bought a blu-ray yet, but always said I would when LOTR came out. I doubt I'll buy the theatrical, though. I haven't even watched my regular theatrical DVD's in years, except when we're in the in our vehicle driving for a while. They don't even come in the house at all...

Don't know much about streaming, It's not something I'm interested in...yet.

Close the door, put out the light.
You know they won't be home tonight.
The snow falls hard and don't you know?
The winds of Thor are blowing cold.
They're wearing steel that's bright and true
They carry news that must get through.

They choose the path where no-one goes.

They hold no quarter.
