Lakisha - good as always, but didn't blow me away this week. I swear she's already sung that song in this competition. She really needs to start standing out more. Chris Sligh - awful this week. He may be in danger. Gina - unless she's doing Pretenders, Joan Jett, or Heart, she stinks. I don't like her. Sanjaya - I was surprised by the judges' reaction, but I thought this was his bet performance so far. He really did a great job, plus he was entertaining. Haley - bad, bad, bad. Please send her home tonight. Phil - I have not liked him at all thus far in the competition, but he was great tonight. Maybe the best performance of the night. Jordin - bad. The judges were all gah-gah over her, but I thought she was terrible. Blake - pretty good. The guy has a weak voice, but apparently his charisma makes up for that. Melinda - again she proved that she is in a completely different league than any of these other jokers (except Lakisha). She rules. Chris R - not too bad, not especially remarkable. Should go home: Haley Will go home: Haley
Out of the darkness of my life, so much frustrated, I put before you the one great thing to love on earth: the Blessed Sacrament... There you will find romance, glory, honour, fidelity, and the true way of all your loves on earth, and more than that: Death: by the divine paradox, that which ends life, and demands the surrender of all, and yet by the taste (or foretaste) of which alone can what you seek in your earthly relationships (love, faithfulness, joy) be maintained, or take on that complexion of reality, of eternal endurance, which every man's heart desires. --J.R.R. Sanjaya's best performance? I think he did far better in auditions. Now it's just week after week of torture. But he'll just keep surviving because he has some wacky fanbase that doesn't care at all if you can sing. I know you don't like Gina but I think she did pretty well last night (better than the last few weeks even). Chris S was not good last night, he can sing so I'm hoping he survives this week so he can come back with a better song choice and show the good singer he can be. Lakisha, Melinda, Phil and Blake were good. Haley, Chris R and Jordin were unmemorable.

Howard Stern's audience. Howard is encouraging his listeners to vote for Sanjaya to keep him on the show. I have to wonder if Sanjaya wants off the show. I don't think he even tried last night and I felt like he was doing his best to 'test the limits' of what would keep him on and what would get him booted.

Lakisha was good, of course, but kinda karaoke...and please, please, pleeeease step out of the box just once. Back away from the Whitney/Diana/Donna catalogue. Chris Sligh still has the most pleasing tone of the guys, but his heart just doesn't seem to be in the competition anymore. Hope is fading fast, but if he goes before some others I will be furious. --Oh, and I *do* think part of the problem was the band, and not him. YMMV. Gina rocked. She can do 'pretty' as well as scream. Some weeks, anyway. Sanjaya ...still around. Drat. Haley must be this year's Brunette Bimbo...well, now that Antonella's gone. Too High School Variety Show/any Beauty Pageant. And that one note was f.o.u.l. ...GO HOME ALREADY! Phil, darn him, actually did well this week, though the backups did have to cover his backside on that high note. Rats. Still can't stand him. Melinda sold a done-way-too-many-times song that could have gone really bad karaoke really fast. Of course. She's a pro. Blake----kill me now. That was so predictable that I 'heard' it before he "sang" it. He did the 311 version of a song by my beloved Cure. He needs to suffer. *I* did. Jordin is cute....the performance, not so much. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't exciting either. She did make a couple changes. Chris R. pulled out another one this week. Not a fan, and it did have problems, but it was more interesting than Blake's *sigh*and Sligh's*sigh*. Darn him too. Sanjaya probably isn't going anywhere, so please send Haley packing. Please let it be her, and not Chris Sligh!

the Vote for The Worst dot com bandwagon, who has been touting Sanjaya since the Top 24. It's actually pretty funny. Put the vote in America's hands, you have to deal with the results! I personally don't vote for him, but it's an interesting twist to an otherwise very boring season.

She seems such a shoe in- but what if she got the boot? Shoe. Boot. Gina was great. Love the Pretenders and she did a nice job of hitting it and not screaming her way through it. Best of the night. Blake butchered a really great Cure song. I would've liked to have heard it at the right tempo- his voice was right on but the tempo was throwing me. LaKisha, I think FingPitt hit it with this one. Bla bla bla Chris R., blow your nose and sing without sounding like an allergy commercial. Hayley- should've sung it straight and tender, forget the runs. Phil- did he perform? I must've been sleeping. Melinda- see above, less "ohmygoodnessyouthinkI'mGOOD?!" reaction this week, which is a good thing. Jordin- see Phil. Chris S. Buh bye, Jack Osbourne! I don't think your personality can save you anymore! Oh, and Sanjaya. *Thud* Should go: Hayley/Phil/Chris S. Will go: Chris S.

I've seen horses with that hairstyle, Sanjaya. They looked much better. And if you stick your tongue out one more time I will personally see to it that it's removed. You are neither Gene Simmons nor Bill the cat. Stop it and go home. Lakisha - as FoP said, good as always, but... not memorable. Not *as* good. She hasn't blown me away in a few weeks... I miss her. Chris Sligh - I blame the band. Love him still, not a good idea with that song, I'm worried about him. Gina - Sorry, FoP, I thought she was wonderful. Though the tongue ring bothers me. But she sounded terrific. Sanjaya - Actually sounded almost good. Looked like a bloody fool. Intended to, apparently. He reminds me more and more of Pat Boone covering Ozzy Osbourne. I'm not happy with the way he put himself across (or was put across by the editors) as a sweet, goofy, naive kid, and now he's being shown as an obnoxious no-talent who tries uncleverly to mouth off to Simon. Go. Home. NOW. Haley - did she sing? Oh right. The week they stop dressing her like a sex kitten is the week she goes home. Phil - Wow. The hat made a huge difference - I wasn't scared. And he sounded good. Again, I credit the hat. Now please go cut off some of Sanjaya's hair and glue it to your scalp, Phil. Jordin - Don't know the song, but I thought it was cute. Love her. Blake - I love his tone, and could listen to him all day - or at least a cd's length. Again I don't know the song, so I'm oblivious to whatever he did to it - I liked it, though I predicted Simon would say the word "boring" at some point. Melinda - Again, love her, hated the song. Half the fun of her performances, though, wonderful voice and all, is watching her have fun (she's having the time of her life, and it shows)... Given that I've hated nearly every song choice she's made, I worry about a cd from her. Chris R - I'm with Farawyn. "Blow your nose and sing without sounding like an allergy commercial" - I'll buy you a nasal spray if you'll go away. Fingernails on a blackboard, and moreso last night even than usual. Cute as he is, with the mute button in play his performances are fair enough (though chock full of pseudo-rapper mannerisms that irritate), but with sound I'd *almost* rather listen to Sanjaya. No I wouldn't.

is that Sanjaya has the non-threatening androgynous thing going that appeals to young/teen girls. I think that's definitely true. The same was said about Orlando and I think that was valid as well. I can remember what it was like to be 16 and I would have totally fallen for Orlando then (well, I kind of fell for him at 50 too...). I probably would have fallen for Sanjaya but I think he's kind of insipid so I think I would have to project a personality onto him... something I had no trouble doing at 16.

with a friend of mine (a really great young singer, with great taste) on whom she liked and didn't this season. She has a perfect track record of picking the winners very early in previous seasons, and she thinks Jordin will win. She thinks Melinda *should* win, of course, and agrees with me that Melinda is way better than either Jordin *or* LaKisha (or any of the guys, obviously). But she thinks Jordin will win because she's more "sparkly" (LOL!), She's right about that, but I hope she's wrong about the outcome. One question: What exactly WAS the theme last night? Songs Gwen Stefani either has sung or likes? Weird. Here's my take this week: LaKisha — I think this really was her best vocal, though I didn't like the song, and it's kind of painful to watch her try to "dance." Chris Sligh — I love the quality of his voice, but he's made some really disappointing song choices, has not put his stamp on the songs, and has not developed a convincing stage presence. I agree that he seems to have given up. (Sigh.) Anyway, I didn't think he made a mess of the rhythm; I'm not sure what Randy and Paula were talking about. Gina — I hated her at first, but now I've come to like her, though I don't think she always shows her voice to its best advantage. I didn't think this was her best, though — I was surprised by the judges' reaction. Sanjaya — This was his best vocal so far, which makes it even more of a shame that he always seems like he's in a high school talent show. He was indeed entertaining, just not in the way he intended — I just laughed myself silly througout his performance! Haley — Again, she's got a better voice than she's showing us, and she's not distinctive enough. I've come to like her better than I did at first, but this was not a good night for her. Phil — Far and away his best performance. Good song choice, better use of his voice, and WAY better presentation. The cap did help, but he also moved more comfortably on stage and even showed an itsy bit of charisma. He's got the second-best vocal quality of the men (after Chris S.), and I hope he sticks around. Jordin — I don't know this song, and I couldn't understand a single word except "baby," "boys say," and "girls say." But the "sparkly" factor was definitely on display. Blake — As we established last week, he really can't sing. HIs only talent is beat-boxing, and this is not a beat-boxing competition. He's a one-trick pony. He should go home. Now that the novelty has worn off, I completely fail to understand his appeal. Melinda — Once again, she blew everyone out of the water. She could sing the phone book and make people smile or weep. Chris R. — I'm getting really tired of his little, nasal voice, and his confidence seems to have been shaken by his bottom-three finish last week. Should go home: Sanjaya, of course, but failing that, Blake. Will go home: Haley (though I think both Chrises are in danger).

the androgynous look didn't appeal to me (though I will admit it is more appealing nowadays to me for some odd reason....perhaps it stems from the side of my personality that's 'goth'? There's something for me to ponder now). I can see his appeal to the younger crowd since he is in the same age-bracket (essentially) and really that age-bracket could care less if a singer can actually sing or not (for the most part).

I don't think Sligh is one of the worst of those left, but I can understand why he got cut this week: he was really bad last night. Bad song choice.

First Time AI Comment: Thoughts and Rants...
[In reply to]
|
Can't Post
|

Alright, this is my first time posting in this thread. The reasons for this are #1, I only really started following (and very spottedly voting in) AI this season, and even that was late (*gasp!* ), although I was familiar with past winners; #2, I was just kind-of keeping my thoughts to myself (except with my family and the television, of course ). Well, after tonight's results, I really just couldn't keep them to myself any longer. (Thank goodness for the extra outlet of TORn! ) And my thoughts this time are... What on earth happened?!?! I'll start right off by saying that I was/am partial to Chris Sligh and Gina, and I don't think anyone can deny Melinda and Lakisha's talent. I was hoping that all four would make it to, well, the final four. As for the others, they're fair, although Jordin has had some sporadic good moments. I was wondering for a long time why Sanjaya was even in the top 12, as he didn't have such a good voice that I heard, but apparently he was too nervous and actually did a good job last night, so I'm not annoyed at that anymore. I will admit that Chris' performance last night wasn't anywhere near as good as his previous ones, but he does have the best voice of all the guys when he chooses to use it. Haley, however-- and I really don't mean any offense to her, she's a nice, pretty gal-- was definitely the worst last night. Therefore, I wasn't shocked to find both of them in the bottom three, but I *was* actually pretty stunned that Chris was the one who got the boot instead of Haley. I mean, it really should have been her. *sigh*... oh well. If a bunch of people can't see that they should have voted for someone (anyone!) other than Haley, that's their problem. Perhaps a record label will make Chris an offer. (From what I've heard, I think the final AI winner is guaranteed at least a look by/deal from a label, and labels also look at the top 12 or 10 or so, too.) Anyway, he's nice, has a good sense of humor, a wonderful voice (when he chooses to), and etc., and I do hope he really is able to continue what he loves to do (sing) in one way or another. End of thoughts and rants.

I, too, am sorry to see Chris leave, though not so surprised. I thought he was the next most likely after Haley (though I personally would have gotten rid of both Blake and Chris R. before either of them). However, Sanjaya is still by far the worst in the competition, and it's a crime that he's still around. He's still here because of the combined effects of his appeal to little girls and, more importantly, a campaign to "Vote the Worst," promoted by Howard Stern, as part of a gimmick to draw attention to Stern and boost the sagging ratings of his radio show. Lots of people are voting for Sanjaya because Stern tells them to. (What a pathetic jerk! Stern, that is!) I agree that Sanjaya's vocal this week was his best so far, but he's still much worse than anyone else and has deserved to go home every week, including this week. Sanjaya must know about the Stern shenanigans and why he's still on the show; if he had any honor, he would quit.

I don't vote for Sanjaya or whoever I think is The Worst week to week, but if people are putting themselves in the voter's hands they should expect that something like this would have happened sooner or later. It's a contest, and we can vote as many times as we want for free- who's to say HOW people vote? Is it any different for voting someone because they are hot? Or because Simon was mean to him/her? I actually don't think Sanjaya was the worst the other night. I close my eyes for part of the song when each person sings so I just hear them, and he wasn't that bad. Not that good, but...*wink*
