Scenes from the Hat Can't Post

All I Really Need to Know I Learned from The Lord of the Rings

We've done variations on the theme before, but what the heck - let's do the whole ball of wax.

Family board, please, and remember:

All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten
By Robert Fulghum
Share everything.
Play fair.
Don’t hit people.
Put things back where you found them.
Clean up your own mess.
Don’t take things that aren’t yours.
Say you’re sorry when you hurt somebody.
Wash your hands before you eat.
Flush.
Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you.
Live a balanced life – learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing anddance and play and work every day some.
Take a nap every afternoon.
When you go out into the world, watch out for traffic, hold hands and stick together.
Be aware of wonder.

'I cannot read the furry letters,' said Frodo in a quavering voice.
'No,' said Gandalf, 'but I can.'

'One Ring to drool on them all, One Ring to heed them
One Ring to bring them all and remind them all to feed them
In the land of Kitchen where the litter lies.
'

All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Middle-earth [In reply to] Can't Post

All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Middle-earth
By Stephen R. Donaldson

Share everything, even pipeweed.
Play fair, it's what the Dark Lord won't be expecting.
Don’t hit Bilbo, it's just a vision.
Put Rings back where you found them.
Clean up your own ancestor's mess.
Don’t take many things that men have missed - they aren’t yours.
Say you’re sorry when you leave Bag End to the Sackville-Bagginses.
Wash your face with cold water before you eat.
Fish.
Lembas and miruvor are good for you.
Live a balanced life – quest some and fight some and draw and paint and sing and dance and gasp and crawl toward the volcano every day some.
Take a nap every afternoon, except on the Barrow-downs.
When you go out into the wide world, watch out for giant spiders, hold hands and stick together.
Be aware of the movie rights.

All I need to know I learned from Lord of the Rings [In reply to] Can't Post

  • Tramps waving broken cutlery around are qualified to be king.
  • Jewellery is way more dangerous than it looks.
  • Midgets are tough as old boots.
  • Wars are really diversions (Captain Obvious).
  • Wormtongue isn't just a clever name.
  • Never look in crystal balls, you don't know who might be watching.
  • Immortality ain't all it's cracked up to be.
  • Poetry is an acceptable way to introduce yourself.
  • Poetry is an acceptable way to talk to people.
  • Poetry is an acceptable way to explain your next move.
  • Don't kick trees, they're vicious once roused!

"Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both."
Benjamin Franklin
The world is a tragedy to those who feel, but a comedy to those who think.

They weren't there again today.
I wish he would just fly away.

Ain't that the truth! [In reply to] Can't Post

Share everything. Especially lembas at need.

Play fair. But don't turn your back either.

Don’t hit people. Unless their first blow might be fatal.

Put things back where you found them. Especially stray pieces of jewelry.

Clean up your own mess. Merry and Pippin would do well to remember that.

Don’t take things that aren’t yours. Smeagol forgot this, much to Deagol's detriment.

Say you’re sorry when you hurt somebody. I think the Cave Troll was sorry, at the end. Too late!

Wash your hands before you eat. But don't disturb the water!

Flush. Fastidiously ignored in both book and movie.

Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you. Eowyn thought she could do better. Not!

Live a balanced life – learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing anddance and play and work every day some. Sounds like a hobbit to me.

Take a nap every afternoon. Gimli had this down pat.

When you go out into the world, watch out for traffic, hold hands and stick together. Well, Sam got the holding hands part right -- and the rest too.

Be aware of wonder. The story is full of it.

Teach someone to fish and they find the One Ring, crawl under the Misty Mountains, and eat for the rest of their lives.

Share everything .. even your nice shiny daggers.
Play fair until it looks like you might loose.
Don’t hit people - arrows are much more effective.
Put things back where you found them Lobelia!
Clean up your own mess - and all those skulls you dropped!
Don’t take things that aren’t yours Eowyn!
Say you’re sorry when you hurt somebody - but do this whilst running.
Wash your hands before you eat Denethor!
Flush - a Royal beats a Full House.
Live a balanced life - have one chip on each shoulder.
draw and paint your nails,
and sing and dance and play and work every day some ... and when your done ... not until then can you go war mongering!
Take a nap every afternoon - but be careful! someone might shave off your eyebrows .
When you go out into the world, watch out for traffic, hold hands and stick together - and dont just go running off into the wild with no shoes either!
Be aware of wonder and remember ...
Blondes have more fun.
