... "Fringe" will still be on the air when filming begins on The Hobbit (which is still a year or two away). I wouldn't hold my breath. FOX has a nasty reputation of cancelling shows despite fans' outpouring of support.

with a lot of the older actors.
When they start filming for The Hobbit and Film 2, it will be almost 10 years after they started filming LOTR.
And now these guys have to play characters that are younger than the characters in LOTR, while they themselves have aged.
So either they must have aged very gracefully, or there has to be done a lot of make up.
And that is even beside the physical part of the role.
So I'm afraid there might be more rejection (although I really, really, really hope not)

That reporters seem to be asking anyone who was either involved with LOTR or has been involved with GDT about what can only be an assumed role in The Hobbit and F2? I mean, 1. they can't possibly know if there will be a part for them, if they'll be offered it, or if they'll accept it. And 2. many of these people have current projects that should be getting as much (if not more) attention than a movie that's not even scripted yet and won't be in theaters for more than 3 years. All IMHO, of course.

Last night, I watched a DVD "Stormbreaker" (2006), based on the first book in Anthony Horowitz's best-selling "Alex Rider" series on a teenager who works for MI6. That's how I discovered Alex Pettyfer (who played the 14-year-old Rider). The casting director for Hobbit 1 & 2 really should check him out for an elven role.

It's one thing asking Ian's McKellan & Holm if they will be playing a part in The Hobbit, but asking actors about a movie that doesn't even have a definite plot yet seems a little daft! Until it's been scripted, no one knows anything!! And yes, it must be a tadge annoying when journalists are asking you questions about a potentially non-existent future part in F2, when you are trying to promote something you're currently working on!

No, I'm not bitter.
My thoughts exactly. A few months from now, when the show has been axed (call me a pessimist, but most new shows don't make it), the notion of participating in a surefire hit film might start looking a bit more attractive to Mr. Noble.

I'm not all too clear about the "timeline" for Film 2. Is it the 60 years between TH and the beginning of LOTR? Or is it also going to encompass those 17 years between the beginning of LOTR and Frodo's setting out? If it's the latter (which I think it will be, seeing as there's much more tangible stuff - like the whole Aragorn tracking Gollum - that happens during that period), then I don't see why any actors have be much younger than they were in LOTR. Just IMO though

Though I'd like to see the younger Aragorn journeys, I don't think Noble would be able to play Denethor 40 or 50 years younger. I'm doubtful Viggo Mortensen would manage Aragorn that much younger either, actually.

As much as I like John, there's really no point to ask him if he is going to be in The Hobbit. But it looks like every single reporter wants to jump on the 'ask if he's going to be involved because he was in LOTR'-bandwagon. I'm expecting quotes like these from David Wenham, Karl Urban and Miranda Otto too. And really, anyone who does his homework knows not to ask those questions. It is just silly.

Even if they want to follow Aragorn's story for the second film (don't do it! Go with Gandalf's story!), having John Noble as an obviously very young Denethor in it, would just be wrong.
I really hope (and assume) they won't bring back actors just because they were in LOTR. There has to be at least some sense in casting actors in returning roles; these films are not some kind of getting back together-party for the cast.

I think his choice is good. Although I would love to see him in the films again, the fact that he's deciding not to return is a good choice. Even with make-up, he wouldn't look much younger, plus, his voice wouldn't fit. It's sad news, but at the same time, good news.

there is no real news, and journalists (knowing the interest is there) are just dreaming up anything they can to get those interested folks to read their stories.
Hopefully it won't be long before there is some more substantial news.

... just because there wasn't a subtitle that said '17 years later' does not mean the movie ignored that period of time. i mean, as long as the movie didn't say 'a week later' and/or did anything to refute the timeline, the 17 year gap exists in my mind at least

play a small part just before the end of Film2 in order to join the films/stories together if he's needed. I mean, Ian Holm and Cate Blanchett were only on set for 2 weeks (or less) and were able to fulfill their characters' storylines through 3 films!
I imagine if that could be arranged (if needed), he'd hopefully rethink this to better the story for Boromir/Faramir's roles.
A younger Denethor? Yeah, someone else should be used... just as will be done (most likely) for the other characters (EXCEPT wizards and elves ;)
