Given PJ's interest in war and The Dambusters, I had assumed he and Fran would take a key role in the scriptwriting - but evidently not: Comic to pen NZ film Dambusters Versatile British actor and comedian Stephen Fry - best known for Jeeves and Wooster with Hugh Laurie and Blackadder Goes Forth - has revealed he is writing the script for Peter Jackson's Dambusters, to be shot in Wellington. Fry, 49, who has written for film and television as well as several novels, confirmed he was writing the script while promoting his TV series Kingdom in Britain this week. A spokesman for Jackson also confirmed Fry was writing the film's script about a famous World War II bombing mission. The US$35 million (NZ$50.3 million) film, to be directed by newcomer Christian Rivers, will be shot this year, mainly in Wellington.
Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..." Dwarves: "Pretty rings..." Men: "Pretty rings..." Sauron: "Mine's better." "Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded b*****d with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak. ....one would have also expected Jackson to direct it, and Walsh to do some second unti work.
“Such is the tragi-comedy of our situation - we continue to clamour for those very qualities we are rendering impossible. … In a sort of ghastly simplicity we remove the organ and demand the function. We make men without chests and expect of them virtue and enterprise. We laugh at honour and are shocked to find traitors in our midst." -The Abolition of Man, C.S. Lewis

He's a very intelligent man, knowledgeable of the period and witty, so I think his script will be excellent. I was excited by this news. I had thought, however, that it was a film which PJ wanted to make himself - maybe I just had missed this news before but I am surprised he isn't directing it.
