Fiesta Friday Fun? Step right in!

Welcome to Fiesta Friday! Be careful though. The boards are moving so much faster than last week you may miss Fiesta altogether! It'll slide right by you. Fall is getting prettier by the day here in Colorful Colorado. However, it's getting to the point where one windy day will take all those leaves wherever they go for the winter. We'll then be ready for Halloween with bare, more properly scary-looking trees. Our most recent home improvement project was to get a gate put in our fence that leads to the back yard, to match the fence on the opposite side of the house. The reason is that our fuse box is outside, and getting to it has always entailed climbing over (or squeezing past) the big concrete block our air conditioner sits on. The whole thing is on a slope, so the 'climbing' side is almost hip-high. That was doable years ago, but our knees aren't what they used to be. Now, when we open the new gate, we can get to the fuse box in a few easy steps. This is an especially good thing because, in perfect accordance with Murphy's law, fuses only trip in the middle of the night during blizzards. How has life been treating you, and how do you plan to spend the weekend? Grab a plate at the buffet, and a glass at the Fiesta bar, and let us know! *puts quarters on juke box* a song to keep the Fiesta Fun going!! Happy, wonderful weekend, everyone!!

Good grief, fast is right, Altaira! That was some heavy WD-40 you managed to use on them! Thank you! Glad you were able to get that gate put in! Your fuse box is outside, though? Here they're in the garage or basement - this area is notorious for the worst to happen during our storms. Speaking of which, we've got a Nor'Easter on the way. It's supposed to mostly impact the Carolinas, but we should get an inch or two of rain from it, and gusty winds. Unfortunately, on the Monday holiday, making a mess of anyone's plans. I did a bit more room painting this week - this time, the ceiling and walls in the main bathroom. It's a tough squeeze around the toilet and above the sink, so I'm going to have my son reach those corners when he returns home. He's been at a week-long "gamers getaway", where a dozen online friends get an Airbnb with plenty of tables, and they play a variety of board games together. And share cooking duties, he made them meat loaves with roasted potatoes and onions and a salad one night. The place they rented is in the Catskills, so only a half-day drive from here. Here's a song to celebrate these rejuvenated Boards: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M93qXQWaBdE

Argh. Ceilings are the worst on your neck. Good idea to let your son get some of those hard-to-get-at areas. Are there any other house areas you plan to paint? Growing up, our fuse box was outside, but very easy to get to. In my condo, it was in the basement - again very easy to get to. Whomever decided to put the ones in our neighborhood outside, on the side of the house blocked by the air conditioner, has had many fists shaken at them. Stay dry and have a great weekend!

for the wall painting, for a while! But next comes cleaning all the old four-pane wooden doors, they need a good polishing and some touch-ups, and some need doorknobs replaced. That fuse box is one of those "why in the world...!" things, that you wish whoever decided to put it there had the same situation with his own house. Looking forward to the much-needed rain, maybe I'll put up the umbrella and dance in it for a while! You have a great weekend, too!

a playing card clothespinned to the spoke of a bicycle, as the rider rips down a steep hill! But a LOT louder...wow, that could hurt the ears after a while! Just 'cause we've got a few years on us, doesn't mean we can't be kids once in a while.

One client I use to have had two monitors set up in my cubicle, and I would rave about it. One day I came home, and lo and behold, B.G. had set up 2 monitors complete with a little 'docking' attachment to make it easy for me to plug my laptop into. Think I'll keep him a while longer.

I'm volunteering this morning to help gather in the last of the votes for our local-body elections. Voting ends in about five hours' time and from 9am I'll be manning the drive-through for last-minutes votes, which is always busy. (Why are so many people chronically late voters?) Unfortunately it's wet and grey out there so I expect to be somewhat damp throughout it. Last week I was in Perth, with me, my brother and SIL staying with my sister, doing touristy things (Fremantle Markets, the Terracotta Warriors exhibition, beachside cafes) and seeing the All Blacks beat the Wallabies at Perth's stadium. It's a fantastic venue and the game was fun, but we must have been up and down from our seats 15 times as people shuffled past for more beer or to go to the loo (because of the beer). I've never before had to stand up during the game to let someone past. They missed so much of the play! I just don't understand why you'd spend so much on tickets only to miss a good chunk of the reason you're there in the first place. Unfortunately my SIL's father died while she was away (it's been coming for a long time) so they had to cut their holiday short. His funeral was yesterday. A rubbish way to end our holidays but it was lovely to have so much family around - just a sucky reason for it to happen. Have a great weekend, everyone. Stay dry out there!

I'd like to find an umbrella that has plastic shades around the edges, which one can unroll to keep out the "sideways" rain! I expect you had plenty of very-last-minute voters? My sympathy for your SIL and her family, but it was good to have a bit of time all together. The Terracotta Warriors exhibit must have been fascinating - and unbelievable! Send any leftover rain this way, please!

Fast moving boards are better than error messages any day. Thanks again for your bot-fighting derring-do. Life has been pretty good, especially work-wise. Today I talked with a new client about her dissertation proposal and was able to help her pull all her various ideas together in an outline. I love doing that kind of thing. She wants me to be her editor as she writes it and I think I'm going to enjoy working with her, especially as her topic is "juicy" to me. She actually had two ideas, but it was clear which one had the real meaning for her, and when I said "your other idea, honestly, I yawned because so many people have done that topic" I think it gave her permission to go with the fun one! This next week's going to be very social for me with two lunches with friends who are making the trek from Seattle to visit, and several on-line gatherings, both social and professional. I've also recently been invited to be a regular at the Tuesday afternoon card games a neighbor hosts; for a while they invited me every couple of months to fill in, but I guess I passed a test. Fun group, lots of laughter. Winter's on its way! Temps will drop into the high 30s next week. At some point the popup catio will get put away, and my down comforter will come out of storage. All the summer shoes went into the bin under the bed this week, and I bought a new sweater. Love me some sweater weather! I'll have a scone and coffee with a generous shot of Bailey's (toasts to Patty).

We didn't realise it was on when we decided to check out Perth's museum, so jumped at the chance to have a look - I never thought I'd get to see them in real life. There were, understandably, only a few of the various types of statues there but the museum did a brilliant job with the display, with some interactive elements included. One of them was about how the warriors had originally been painted but the colours had worn off over the years, so visitors had a chance to 'paint' a digital warrior in any colours they wanted. The kids loved that one! (I wouldn't have minded having a go either.)

Especially with your describing that dissertation as "juicy", the two of you will have a blast with it! Tuesday card games? Do they play the standard ones like Bridge and Rummy and Cribbage, or the more complex like Magic the Gathering? Whichever, that's an excellent weekly diversion from the writing. There's something refreshing about the arrival of the cold weather. I got our comforter out of the cedar chest last week, and I do need to give my hiking sandals a cleaning and get them put away.

Thanks again for the expert bot-fighting, Altaira. To counter the cold weather reports a bit, we jumped up back into the 80s today but will be dropping steadily as remnants from a tropical storm bring rain from the Baja Peninsula. I think Arizona is supposed to get the worst of it, but we'll take what we get for this time of year. We're doing a morning hike tomorrow, the one I mentioned a few weeks ago that ends in an old defunct dam. Very excited that cooler hiking weather now seems to be setting in! My girlfriend is going abroad again next week to visit her sister, so I'll be riding solo for a few days. I've already got a couple of friend hangouts scheduled, to make sure I get out of the house. And oof, how about those Dodgers! You never like to see a team lose on an error, but I'm glad we were on the winning side of it. Sending good luck to Annael and the Mariners tonight! Wishing everyone happy weekend.

Especially the 2nd half. How fun that you were there! That *is* odd that so many people kept coming and going. Sorry to hear about your SIL's loss. But, as you said, nice to have family nearby for support. Coffee and Bailey's should do just fine. Stay warm and dry if you can, and have a wonderful weekend!
