Another Friday already? Time flies, indeed. Spring is trying very hard to spring, trees are finally starting to bud, and birds are everywhere. Quite a beautiful time of year. Did you have a good week? Any fun plans for the weekend? Do let us know as soon as you make a pass (or two, or three) at the buffet, and have a drinkie (or two, or three) from the Fiesta bar!! *puts quarters on juke box* Any Spring-y songs come to mind? Play a few for us and have a fabulous weekend!

Got the one book back to the authors, now looking at new chapters from my French clients. And one of these days, really do need to get my tax return done . . . No plans for this weekend. Still not warm here, but inching up temperature-wise. Cherrytrees and flowering plums in full bloom. We are famous here for tulips, and it's tulip time, which means locals take good care to stay out of the madness. I'll probably put some plants in pots and go for long walks and catch up on my French lessons which slid to one side this week. Reviewing the silliness of French numbering: everything's fine until we hit 70, which in French is "sixty-ten"; 80 is "four twenty" (apparently where we got "four score"), and 90 is "four twenty ten." Did this inspire Tolkien to come up with "eleventy-one"?

Greetings, Altaira! Might I have a mug of mocha java, please? They've been having snow in the northwest of this state (and northern New England), and cold rain here - no good at all for outdoors-work, even this weekend! So I'm prepping another room for painting. But in spite of frost warnings, it's nice to see that quite a few of the bushes are sprouting little green leaves, and the periwinkles are popping out their happy blue flowers. And birdsong everywhere! A Spring song? How about this oldie! : https://www.youtube.com/...hls6umlcBhrHscT2XDMA

The fields must be bursting with all sorts of colors. How long does the season last? What's the most unusual tulip you've seen? I'd forgotten that the higher numbers in French used that insane system. I can't imagine trying to teach kids math!

Ah, visitors: so lovely to see them about the place, and such a pain in the butt to work around at our usual haunts. Here, I stay off the Coastal Walkway for most of January as it's too busy with people for me to handle with equanimity while on my bike.

so I guess autumn's decided to flex its muscles. We had such a long tail to summer heat that this change has happened fairly abruptly. Ah well, it had to come sometime. I've been nose-deep in a work project so I've been looking forward to the two long weekends coming up: Easter, then Anzac Day on the 25th. I love it when those two holidays collaborate so closely with each other. It's sunny so I'll jump on my bike soon and enjoy the morning before too many more people get up and about. Have a great weekend, everyone!

I never thought of the Pacific NW as being famous for tulips, but it does go with the regional weather this time of year now that I think of it. I usually think of Iowa when I think of Spring tulip time, or the Netherlands, of course! It seems like the French just got unimaginative when thinking up names for the higher numbers, doesn't it? Even in the teens seeing as seventeen is nothing more than ten-seven. Ah, but the wine is superb, no?

I guess Spring is hiding for a few more weeks there. All the more time for the buds to form and open for the future warmer sun. Ooooh, another room to paint? I thought you would have had them all painted by now. Which new room is it and which color? In any case, have a great weekend getting indoor projects done!!

I love the last end of summer sun. It's such a beautiful time of year. I have been taking Tama up to Victoria Dog Park when I can manage it. It has a pretty terrific view for a dog park, and plenty of tracks to explore, as well as the off lead area for running and kangaroo jumping in the long grass. The korimako have been very vocal, which is an added bonus. You can have a listen to their lovely song on the link if you wish.Happy weekend, everyone.

There's something about being in nature that I find ... not restorative, more a 'relaxing of attention', I suppose. I can breathe out fully, if that makes sense.

We're at the end of an early Spring heatwave (nothing unbearable but warmer than it's been of late), which I've quite enjoyed. All of the bees are hard at work, and so are my allergies. Starting tomorrow we cool off again for a few days. Work has been a bit more manageable this week, though job hunting has been more difficult as the job market is, shall we say, quite funky given the world right now. Thankfully we have a happy hour meetup tonight right after clocking out, so we'll banish those thoughts for a couple of days and try to unwind! The Dodgers are back in town, but we haven't purchased tickets yet as they are still quite pricey due to everyone wanting to go post-World Series win. Wishing everyone a happy and sunny weekend!

Since spring has formally arrived, the Redbud trees are out in all their glory; you see the pink trees everywhere, both at peoples' houses and planted on the medians of larger streets. Unfortunately, our house does not have a Redbud, a disappointing situation for Dweller's spouse who loves all things pink. She keeps asking me whether we could just "dig one up" from where they've been planted by the city. Aside from the fact that the tree would probably die, there's the small matter of illegality-- I can just imagine my photo in the local newspaper under the headline "POLICE IDENTIFY TREE THIEF".
Don't mess with my favorite female elves.

After a chilly couple of weeks, today is gloriously warm and sunny, with only light winds, just enough to dry the washing nicely. It's been quite a good week, albeit a quiet one. I've got a good load of early editing done, and have already slashed several thousands of words - considering what pain and difficulty sometimes accompanies the writing, it's surprising just how satisfying deleting can be. Let's see, what else: froze a good lot of capsicums, and will do more aubergines this weekend. We ate the first of the persimmons from the orchard, and have a lot more turning red-gold on the windowsill. I started a batch of quince brandy (our quinces are ready), and as a bonus found the remnants of an old one! We had our flu vaccines, and having heard of a lot of unpleasant experiences this year were relieved to have no worse than sleepiness and some very mild tenderness (although mine did sting like lemon juice in a paper cut for the first few minutes). I've made tabbouleh salad for lunch, as we still have a nice lot of cucumbers in the garden, although the tomatoes are almost at an end. Most of next week looks set to be rainy, so we'll make the most of the next couple of days, getting some things done in the garden. Moussaka for dinner - still using up those aubergines before I freeze the rest. Wishing everyone a pleasant weekend.

basically April, but it can be earlier or later by a week or two. Hmmm . . . there are so many amazing varieties! I'm fond of the deep purple ones. But at home I have mostly yellow and pink variegated ones.

The main bedroom. I have nearly a full can of the green from the living room left over, and the shade goes very nicely with the dark wood door and window frames. And I finally have a good excuse to get new window shades! I'm debating between cellular and Roman. Now, I need just a couple more rainy, blustery days... I hope you have a pleasant weekend out there, Altaira!
