I was reading some Tolkien info on the interwebs and thought of good old TORn this morning. Turns out my message board password still works. I hope I haven't broken any rules by posting. I went back to my oldest posts and saw the cast of characters that were around in those days were not only familiar, but those unforgettable forum handles were easily identified old friends and that hit me hard, right in the feelings. If I name a single name I would feel obligated to name many names and would inevitably miss people, but I really wanted to thank those of you who made my life better through these forums. It's also remarkable how many of those names I knew in print were also people that I met in real life, often many times. We shared a little bit of the good life. Sincere thanks to my old friends (who likely are largely gone) and thanks for those (everybody who wonders if this is just spam) who still participate here.
I have no choice but to believe in free will. The cake is a lie The cake is a lie The cake is a lie

Happiness: money matters, but less than we think and not in the way that we think. Family is important and so are friends, while envy is toxic -- and so is excessive thinking. Beaches are optional. Trust is not. Neither is gratitude. - The Geography of Bliss by Eric Weiner as summarized by Lily Fairbairn. And a bit of the Hobbit reading thrown in never hurts. - NottaSackville

It's been a long time, though, since I've read Cerebus!

whether through online interactions or by sparking real-life meet-ups. In the early days, just having a place where I could geek-out with others who totally got where I was coming from was both a relief and a delight. (I hadn't come across any fellow LOTR fans until I stumbled onto TORN in 1999.) It's lovely to see your nick on the boards again, MrCere. It's quieter now than in the early years but it's still fun to hang out with fellow fans.
Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..." Dwarves: "Pretty rings..." Men: "Pretty rings..." Sauron: "Mine's better." "Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded beggar with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak. migrating away from my gmail I delved deep to change email and password which were still there for me :) I was so much part of so many messageboards back then. So many disappeared, but TORN still lives on. Makes me very happy. THANKS to all of you!
