Love this!
Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..." Dwarves: "Pretty rings..." Men: "Pretty rings..." Sauron: "Mine's better." "Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded beggar with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak. I've been in mourning for many trees over the years. Glad many people are finally getting a change of heart.

While staying in Karamea. It's quite close to what passes for the centre of that very small town, and is just as striking in real life. A worthy winner of the award!

I hope you got its autograph! It really is beautiful, although I haven't seen it in person as you have.

"It came last." It's just an overgrown stick that can't find its way out of a puddle.

It seemed a bit too dignified - not to mention giving the impression of striding about on important business. It's a nice area to visit - there's even a Moria Arch. And a moa cave.

Our tree of the year last year was far more conventional! https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-67145345 Trees, particularly very old trees, shoudl be treasured and protected far more than they are. It grieves me that so often they are viewed as obstacles in the path of development rather than beings to be prized.

Those lower branches, especially the one on the right, look very arm-like, as if the tree is reaching out. Or trying a slow and venerable sort of dance. And, yes, I agree. (I'm very much a tree-hugger!)
