Have you ever thought of what you’d do if you found yourself in a story? Here’s your chance to get there! Getting to know you in Middle-earth. 1. If you were a Tolkien character, who would you be and what would you like do? Work? Go on adventures? Torment your neighbours? 2. Where would you live in Middle-earth and why? 3. What is your favourite foodstuff served or caught in Middle-earth? 4. If you could pick a side-kick, who would it be and why? 5. If you had your choice of a beast of burden, what would it be and why? And would it be different for a road-trip vs peacetime vs wartime? ...Horse? Rabbit? Pony? Fell Beast? Mumakil? Eagle? Warg? Ent? or Hog? (non-Harley Davidson ;)

1) Most probably an Elf who ignores the greatest war in Middle-earth while I shut myself away in Elrond's library and work through every book there. 2) Somewhere with plumbing!!!!! 3) Not Lembas - eating is a joy and there's no fun being full after one mouthful. I'd love to try the pub food at the Green Dragon. 4) A Fell Beast - short on conversation (so won't talk your ear off) and ready to ride at moment's notice. 5) Gotta go with a Fell Beast again. Flying in on an FB is certainly a memorable way to make an entrance.
Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..." Dwarves: "Pretty rings..." Men: "Pretty rings..." Sauron: "Mine's better." "Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded beggar with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak. 1. If you were a Tolkien character, who would you be and what would you like do? Work? Go on adventures? Torment your neighbours? Eowyn, post battles. Living in lovely Ithilien, cultivating her garden, and married to the lovely Faramir. 2. Where would you live in Middle-earth and why? If I'm living on my own (otherwise, it's Ithilien to be with Faramir), my own quiet corner of Rivendell. Company when I want it, peace when I don't, beautiful surroundings for walks and picnics and swims, excellent libraries, good food available as wanted, and toilets that never need cleaning. 3. What is your favourite foodstuff served or caught in Middle-earth? Delicious fruit (especially berries) from the Shire, with a lembas garnish, and occasionally some clotted cream. 4. If you could pick a side-kick, who would it be and why? Faramir, because he's Faramir. If he's too grand to be a sidekick, Merry, because he's capable and confident and somewhat self-effacing. 5. If you had your choice of a beast of burden, what would it be and why? And would it be different for a road-trip vs peacetime vs wartime? ...Horse? Rabbit? Pony? Fell Beast? Mumakil? Eagle? Warg? Ent? or Hog? (non-Harley Davidson ;) A horse for serious road-trips, occasionally a cart, and mostly Shank's Pony (i.e. my own feet).

1. I like the sound of being Merry post-LOTR events, traveling here and there to do research and writing histories. I'd imagine them as working vacations (to Gondor, Rohan, etc), so plenty of time for serious business, but also slightly more time for dinner parties, storytelling and light mischief on King Elessar's dime. 2. I do think The Shire, the reason being that (per the above) I can visit other regions as much as I'd like, while still enjoying The Shire as much as I can. If I'm living in Ithilien, I don't have confidence I'd make the journey to The Shire as often. But reserving the right to maintain extended residencies elsewhere as needed! 3. I think I'd make special trips to Rivendell, and even to Beorn's house, for some great dinners. Bread, cream (we'll pretend it's vegan), berries, cheese (vegan), nuts, greens, wine. 4. I've been leaning harder into being Merry than I expected. So for continuity I suppose Pippin? I'd say Faramir or Treebeard, but "side-kick" doesn't quite suit them. 5. Certainly Shadowfax for all of my traveling and if things get dangerous! Though I wouldn't mind a leisurely ride via pony, if there's good company with us.

Gotcha on the plumbing!!!! Totally agree!!!! :D I laughed when you said the Rivendell library to work through the books. The main reason I got my job at a University Library was precisely that!!! And I live with a Fell Beast (my kitty) She really is short on conversation, but not too easy to ride ;) Thanks for playing :D

I agree on Ithilien... especially Eowyn & Faramir's post-war kingdom/garden. It would a nice mix of Minas Tirith and Rivendell, imho. Any place that could hold onto its wholesomeness and beauty in the midst of that terrible war (that Sam definitely picked up on) would be a wonderful world in peacetime. Especially if you have the right horse/pony ready to go on a road trip or jaunt in the fields or forest :D Thanks for playing!!! :D

He really was on the ball when it came to seeing big-picture things others didn't even know were there. I mean, anyone who keep secret what he saw when Bilbo disappeared and then could put together a great conspiracy AND pull it off is quite a force to contend with. Shadowfax would be a wonderful companion and ride! Yeah... great choice! :D Thanks for playing!!!! :D

1. If you were a Tolkien character, who would you be and what would you like do? Work? Go on adventures? Torment your neighbours? It would be fun to be Mrs. Butterbur, helping run the Prancing Pony! Or maybe a Hobbit inn-owner? "Ah, how nice, Mr. Gamgee, another 'barrow filled with your excellent 'taters, thank you!, there will be chips a-plenty with tonight's ale!" 2. Where would you live in Middle-earth and why? Rivendell or Lorien would be relaxing, for a holiday; but the Shire would be home. I imagine that land is a feast for the senses. 3. What is your favourite foodstuff served or caught in Middle-earth? A good, simple Hobbit meal would be nice, but I'd also like to spend some time with Beorn and his animals - and honey-mead! 4. If you could pick a side-kick, who would it be and why? I'd like to BE a side-kick, for one of the "three remarkable daughters" of the Old Took, and go on an adventure with her! 5. If you had your choice of a beast of burden, what would it be and why? And would it be different for a road-trip vs peacetime vs wartime? Gotta be Bill, peacetime road-trips would be pleasant, and I wouldn't overload him, but I would have plenty of apples!

I'm right with you on so much of what you'd do/be! :D I'm a Shireling-wannabe, fersher! I was intrigued with you adventuring with one of the Old Took's daughters! They're a big part of the Shire's mystique and referenced often, but I've never stopped to think of what it would be like to be in their world! Well Done! And I'm sure Bill wouldn't mind tagging along. That sweet soul was made for the life with hobbits that finally found him :) *giggle* Imagining you as Mrs. Butterbur... I suddenly saw you incorporating some sort of Book Exchange corner in the Pony ;) Especially after hearing how taken the patrons were with Frodo when they thought he was writing a book and even asked about it later. They definitely appreciated the importance and entertainment of books. *high five*
