Your Ideal Hobbit Teaser

Captain Salt

Tol Eressea
Since we don't have many concrete facts to speculate on yet, let's divulge in a bit of time-passing: if you were cutting the teaser and trailers for TH Duology, what would be your approach, and when would you release them?

Personally, I'd like the initial Teaser for the Duology to be incredibly simple, just a collection of images really, to say to the audience, "Yes, we're returning to Middle-Earth, and yes, we're going to be seeing both familiar friends and new elements".

After the studio logos, I'd start with a slow-motion close-up of Ian McKellan as Gandalf; then Whoever-As-Bilbo picking up Sting for the first time or in Mirkwood when it starts glowing; Hugo Weaving as Elrond; perhaps Whoever-As-Thorin; a bunch of Goblins in the Misty Mountains; Cate Blanchett as Galadrial (assuming she's in it); Whoever-As-Thranduil; Beorn in bear-form roaring at the camera; perhaps a hint of Smaug, (a shadowy shape flying over Laketown), possibly with Bard looking up and drawing his bow; and finally with Bilbo picking up the One Ring in Gollum's cave, with a pair of lamp-like eyes staring at him from the darkness, followed by Andy Serkis hissing, "What has nasty Baggins gots in his pocketsess, MY PRECIOUS"?! Close with a close-up of the Ring, then fade to the Title and tagline. If the first film will be out in 2012, then I'd put it in front of The Avengers and Star Trek (1)2.

Anyhoo, what's your version? [tongue]

Good suggestion for a topic, Captain. Hoping we see the New Line Cinema logo just for continuity sake.

Then maybe you here some light music or humming of "The Road Goes Ever On" and panning over The Shire and Hobbiton towards a certain hobbit hole we know and love. Bilbo (whomever that is) smoking his pipe on his front porch and then inside, followed by a knock on the door. Gandalf smiling with a wink in his eye. Dwarves rolling in while a background dwarf voice talks about a quest to recover treasure.

The voice continues talking about adventure and danger as we see a shot of the Lonely Mountain. Passing through Mirkwood with a glimpse of the Wood Elves realm. A passover of Rivendell and a shot of Elrond. The trolls. The eagles. A shot of them all in the trees with the Wargs howling below. Walking through the mountains and a shot of the Great Goblin. Bilbo walking down the tunnel and seeing a glow (but don't show Smaug). The march of Dain approaching the area. Some shots of the Battle of Five Armies. Bilbo floating on a barrel towards Laketown.

And yes, I'd show Gollum at the end and the phrase "my precious". You don't have to show the ring (since they may not want to focus the movie on that) since the inference of "my precious" would pretty much do that anyway.

Now I'm dreaming!

I think it has to be Gollum. From a 'fan's' point of view I'll settle for anything though! LOL But, for those who vaguely remember the LOTR films, just having Gollum caressing the ring, talking to himself, splashing in those pools full of fish where Bilbo finds him. Then perhaps (and this is where you really have to use your imagination) zoom out from where Gollum is and travel across Middle-earth, flying over familiar places and alighting on the Shire, then zoom down to Bilbo's door. Finally, the screen darkens and the words 'The Hobbit' appear in gold writing, cue Howard Shore's Hobbit theme and then just as you're reminiscing, it gets cut short by a very quick flash of Smaug roaring/growling etc.. [cool]

that means they've done some, if not all the filming
(I'm not quite sure on the timing of these things)

... cut to Tatooine with Duel of Fates playing in the background. Oh it's not *that* series, sorry! [tongue]

No, in all seriousness, this is a mix of what I think it will be like, and what I would like it to be:

New Line Logo, MGM Logo, WB logo.

Music begins: Concerning Hobbits.

In black backdrop, letters: "Before the One Ring"

Cut to Gandalf arriving in Bag End, wide shot.

In black backdrop, letters: "There was a Hobbit"

Tight shot of Gandalf, who says: "Good Morning!"

Shot of Bilbo smoking in his porch.

Change of Music. New piece begins, that of an action sequence, probably in the Goblin Tunnels, since it's probable Mirkwood is in the second movie.

Fast glimpses of things from the movie: Thorin and Company at Bilbo's, Trolls picking up a dwarf, Eagles, Beorn, Elrond, wide shot of Rivendell, a warg, The Great Goblin talking to Thorin, action music fades.

Shot of Bilbo, saying: "What do I have in my pocket?"

In black backdrop, letters: The Prelude to Lord of the Rings

Shot of Gollum shouting: "Baggins! We hates you foreveeeeer!"

Music Ends. Black Screen that reads: "The Hobbit. December 2012".

Or something like that. [;)]

I would pay to see that trailer, CompaMighty. Heck, I kept paying to go in and see "Secondhand Lions" just to see the ROTK trailer.

Nicely done!
