Since we don't have many concrete facts to speculate on yet, let's divulge in a bit of time-passing: if you were cutting the teaser and trailers for TH Duology, what would be your approach, and when would you release them?
Personally, I'd like the initial Teaser for the Duology to be incredibly simple, just a collection of images really, to say to the audience, "Yes, we're returning to Middle-Earth, and yes, we're going to be seeing both familiar friends and new elements".
After the studio logos, I'd start with a slow-motion close-up of Ian McKellan as Gandalf; then Whoever-As-Bilbo picking up Sting for the first time or in Mirkwood when it starts glowing; Hugo Weaving as Elrond; perhaps Whoever-As-Thorin; a bunch of Goblins in the Misty Mountains; Cate Blanchett as Galadrial (assuming she's in it); Whoever-As-Thranduil; Beorn in bear-form roaring at the camera; perhaps a hint of Smaug, (a shadowy shape flying over Laketown), possibly with Bard looking up and drawing his bow; and finally with Bilbo picking up the One Ring in Gollum's cave, with a pair of lamp-like eyes staring at him from the darkness, followed by Andy Serkis hissing, "What has nasty Baggins gots in his pocketsess, MY PRECIOUS"?! Close with a close-up of the Ring, then fade to the Title and tagline. If the first film will be out in 2012, then I'd put it in front of The Avengers and Star Trek (1)2.
Anyhoo, what's your version? [tongue]
