First of all, sorry everyone, I know that I should posted the next entry in this series a loooong time ago, but somehow, never got into the mood for doing so.

And I always look at this series as some sort of instant gateway to Middle-Earth. That is why, if I am not feeling like it, I would rather wait to get in the mood than just cook up a feelingless post.

Anyway, the next character I chose was someone who doesn't have that many dialogues as some of the others covered so far, but still.. whatever he says is good, to be frank.

However, the one dialog he says that always gets me is this -

" Come, my friends, The Ents are going to war. It is likely.... that we go to our doom. Last March of the Ents!"

I don't think that I should even need to describe anything more about this to you people, but still, I can't resist.

The first thing that gets me in this dialog is the melancholy in the entire situation. The Ents are going just to avenge the wrong done by Saruman and his servants. They know that they may not emerge unscathed, but such is their anger that they do not worry for that.

Treebeard says that this quite possibly the Last March of the Ents, and by that, I always feel like... he knows that they are hardly gonna come together again... so if this is truly the last time get together, then what better cause than this?

Okay, I have so much more to say on this.. but i want to listen to your guys opinion(s) first. Go for it!
 
I can't remember exactly what it is he says but it ends with: "... little orc". it's when treebeard first meets merry and pippin and i just love it how he can actually manage to call them little orcs. [:)]
 
I think my fave, would be when he's talking to Gandalf and the others after Isengard has fallen, not sure why but it sort of ties everything and everyone together and feels like a link to TTT [:)]

I also like him reciting the Rowan poem... and calling out for the Entwives. "Come back-- to ME!!!" Great job by JRD.
 
"There are Ents and Ents, you know; or there are Ents and things that look like Ents but ain't, as you might say."

That line has cracked me up for decades.

has always been when Treebeard shows just a hint of how angry he can become whn he says "They come with fire, they come with axes... gnawing, biting, breaking, hacking, burning. Destroyers and usurpers, curse them."

Always thought there was an underlying message from Tolkien about nature and the destruction of natural resources, and the careless way we as a species have treated the natural world.
 
The one in my subject line is my favorite -- well, really, his whole eulogy for the dead trees is pretty evocative on screen.

I went back and looked at a transcript, and was impressed with a lot of what Treebeard had to say in the films... no doubt a big part of their success in making a "talking tree" something we could relate to was because they did such a good job with what he said and how he said it; he doesn't have a lot of lines, but they are really varied in tone and emotions...

Thanks for posing this question -- it made me think more about how much the script, in Treebeard's case, contributed to his character.
 
I love the "I always like going South; somehow, it feels like going downhill" .......and I have to agree with him!!![laugh]
