Will the Nazgul be in the Hobbit?

Hello everybody, I'm kind of new here (long time reader) and I know quite a bit about the Hobbit movie and book. But there's one thing I've been wondering. Will the Nazgul feature in (one of) the Hobbit movies?
On the LOTR-wiki it says that at least Khamûl will be in it (played by Sala Baker), but I can find no other source of it. Does anyone know? And what about the other eight?

as far as i'm aware there has been no official casting for the ringwraiths in the hobbit films, or even a mention of them. However it is entirely plausible that Peter Jackson would include at least one of them in the Dol Guldur sequences. I know sauron sends two or three ringwraiths (including Khamul) to Dol Guldur but im pretty sure its after hes returned to Barad-dur which would put their arrival there after the events of the film. In other words, i don't think people know, but there is a definite chance he would include them. Sorry if this is not helpful!!

I mean, if PJ decided to make up the Evangeline Lily character, he may very well put the Nazgul in, even if they were not there, just to ramp up the villain value. I'm not worried, I'm sure I'll enjoy it.

But welcome to TORn to you both!

In the white council action? Why not, they already decided to take that path so go for it I guess.

In Bilbo's story? No thanks.

Hi and welcome!

Im thinking the witchking will be with Sauron to help battle the white council/wizards at Dol Guldur.

Let the Nazgul be LotR's thing, while TH will have a whole new tone and explore new aspects of the world. I expect we'll see all sorts of monstrosities in Dol Guldur, possibly Vampires, Werewolves, and Eru knows what else. It's the kind of environment which would appeal to both PJ and GdT's sensibilities, so I'm sure there's no lack of attention paid to the denizens of the Tower of Sorcery. What would really be cool is if Sauron has all manner of bizarre creatures in his dark tower, such as Wights, Zombies (he IS a Necromancer, after all), Lovecraftian horrors akin to the Watcher in the Water, ETC. Hopefully, the things in Dol Guldur will make the Nazgul look like silly pansies! [tongue]

However, IF the Witch-King is included, it would be a good chance to make the character even more detested by the audience...it would add an extra layer of resonance if in RotK when Eowyn ends the Witch-King's existence, it's not only comeuppance for attacking Frodo and Theoden, but for further evils the Nazgul committed in TH as well, (killing Tauriel)?

Also, it would give PJ a chance to redesign the Nazgul's armor/outer appearance, (making them fit in with Sauron's Mirkwood phase), which could potentially be fun as well.

Using H. P. Lovecraft, as an adjective was chilling...
I really want it, to be a Legendary Evil Fortress, too.

PJ has 3 great opportunies to Scare the Living Daylights out of us.

1. Goblin Town
2. Mirkwood
3. Dol Guldur

I was so Bummed to see "At the Mountains of Madness" movie in development shelved...
It's my absolute favorite Horror Story of all time.
My guess is that GDT needs a few NEW Big Hit Movies;
then he would gain the Powerful Statis with any studio,
Worldwide
....that PJ has aquired over time, to re-boot ATMOM...

My vision is that this Fortress is a Crumbling, Stinkin', Slimey Mess,
Creepier than Minus Morgul
and occupied by the most Horrible Monsters ever seen,
who are cannibalizing each other?
Screeming Winds blowing through the Rooms...

With Alan & John on board, as designers I'm sure they will raise the BAR! there.

After these Movies come out, I can imagine many Halloween Haunted Houses,
will have many of the Spooks from Dol Guldar as a theme...

Can YOU imagine, the Costumes by role players at Comic Con?
after these 2 BlockBusters jus' kill, at the Box Office, soon.

I'm just dying to see what GDT & PJ cooked up a few years ago?
Since many of us, know the most intimate details of our Book,
this descison is such a Bizarre Bonus Battle?

xoxoGoldberry sends kisses too! Bom

I really hope Khamûl will be featured in the movies. Since he was selected the commander of Dol Guldur following Sauron's departure to Mordor, maybe he could be shown as the Necromancer's second in command during the time of the movies. He was a king among the Easterlings during his lifetime, so it would make sense to give him some kind of Easterling-like armor.

The shape of the Black Riders was a disguise. In The Hobbit the Nazgul might show up as anything, from other Hobbits, to giant Dwarves, to motorcycling Elves, to Laketown U cheerleaders to rouge encyclopedia salesmen.

I agree that it'd be awesome if Khamûl / The Black Easterling featured as a proper character but I'm pretty sure that he is only named in Unfinished Tales, which means PJ and Co. don't have the rights to inlcude him in the film. Doesn't mean that there won't be Nazgûl hanging out at Dol Guldur though - Khamûl in all but name.

I understand that PJ & Co can't incorporate episodes from UT into the script, but will they be in trouble for using a name? If the name really is off limits, then maybe they just can call him "The Black Easterling"...?

I wish that PJ & Co. could have petitioned for certain names, scenes, etc.. from UT & the rest of Tolkien's work. It sure seems that it would have made it more complete and to Christopher's liking. Ah well.

[:)] And I agree about Mountains of Madness, I was really looking forward to that was well. GdT hasn't given up on it yet, so hopefully some day...

I like your vision for Dol Guldur. I'm sure PJ & Co. have some suitably horrific things cooked up for us..can't wait to be appopriatly freaked out! [;)]

I too hope that Dol Gulgur will be much more scary than Mordor was in LOTR. And I do hope to see some ''new devilry'' there, I just hope they do not exaggerate, it has to stay 'Tolkien'.

I hope the Ringwraiths are absent in these movies...I think there have been enough liberties taken as far as the writers including characters to enhance an already adequately laden story...the Ringwraiths for me were exclusive to the LOTR trilogy & I think Id like to see it kept as such...if anything...not until the Dol Guldur battle sequence, but having said that, I think itd be unnecessarily jumbling up the story further...too busy.
