Who is in the path of that rampaging Irene?

Yes, I'm about dead center of its projected path. It will probably be Cat 1 or lower by the time it arrives; I'm 3 miles/5 km from the shoreline, so I don't expect much damage here except for some falling branches. The community center down the road is being set up for emergency shelter. I do expect power outage at some point.

But down along the shoreline there could be serious problems, and we have a large population living in the beach areas. Flooding will be the worst problem! I'll give updates as I can.

I also live on Long Island and am preparing for the hurricane. Hoping it won't be too bad but expecting the worst. Hope all in its' path are safe and sound. Thinking of you all.
 
All of us parched, overheated Texans have been praying for a hurricane to enter the Gulf and disrupt the unforgiving high pressure system that's been on us all summer and bring us some rain....

But our aim is off. I'm sorry. [blush]

They are safely in the Midwest US, and Irene is not a threat at all. Despite all the previous downtimes (February blizzard and August rainstorm), the servers should be up and running! [:)]

Hope everyone stays safe! I'm watching a flight from Philadelphia that has two of my co-workers on it. It's on time so far, so they should get home safely.
 
Irene ripped the roof off their concrete cabin and they spent the duration of the storm in the bathtub with a mattress over them. Last we heard they are okay but had no place to sleep and could not leave because the airport was flooded. That will make a story to tell the grandkids!

My niece will be attending grad school at Columbia and is flying to NYC today just in time to meet Irene there. Fortunately Irene will be down to under 100 mph by the time she hits town on Sunday. An exciting introduction to her new life in the Big Apple.

and pretty north as well, so we just had our roof checked and I may bring the plants onto the screened porch, but I'm not too worried (yet!).

Well, the northernmost tippy-top. Albany, NY. We're expecting to get whalloped Sunday....depending on how strong Irene is and how far to the left she veers, we're expecting anywhere from 6-12 inches of rain Sunday. [shocked][crazy][tongue] For us folks the media are already talking "historic."

Colossal yawn, I say....I've got my candles, non-perisable food, water, batteries and radio, etc etc. Plus my warm and cozy comforters, and my library and CD players....apt has a generator but if it's as bad as they say even that may fail. Big deal. We're used to snow emergencies here....so this for us may actually be fun. For me anyway.
Only thing is, I might lose the last of my squash crop...the Community gardens are gonna be a mess if we get the max.

As of now, 5:30 PM EDT, it's warm and sunny here, white fluffy clouds drifting by. You'd never guess we're headed for a Monsoon. We just had that 5.8 quake from Virginia on Thurs, (felt it up here, table jumped about a foot) and now this.

Good luck to those further south (here';s looking at you, Sil[:)] (Check yr Pm's BTW)....

Haven't seen the earther reports (yet), but it seems to be losing steam. Hopefully Ireme heads further inland overnight, Up here the stories have sold out of generators already. You'd think this was NC.:). Oh well. the media always love to make mountain out of a molehill...still good be cautious though.

Batten down the hatches and stay safe. all fellow EC sibs!
