Greeting, everyone!

I've been away from the bar for a few weeks and would like to thank dernwyn and Eventides for doing a great job holding down the fort. I can see they left it well-stocked both with virtual libations and nibbles. So, pull up a comfy chair or have a dip in the pool and let us know how life is treating you and what your weekend plans are.

B.G. and I will be attending the local Peach Festival tomorrow where they truck in tons of luscious peaches from Colorado's "western slope." Peach smoothie, here I come!

*kicks juke box* "Snow" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers starts to play (for all the New Zealand sibs, lol [laugh])

OhioHobbit would like gingerbeer and I would like raspberry iced tea.

We have had an uneventful week -- mostly inside because of the trucks hauling the contents of the pig pits! Sometimes the smell is so bad it knocks you down. [:/]

I have been going out at 7 a.m. to get things done before they start hauling at 8 a.m. They haul all day until about 7 p.m. How long can it take to empty 6 pits?

Hopefully this will be it for 6 months.

Hope everyone has a great weekend -- I envy you your peach festival! I love peaches.
 
The peach crop here in Texas was pretty puny this year, what with freezing rain, drought, and extreme heat. Enjoy a peach smoothie for all of us!

I'll take my usual frappuccino, please, and will try to hang around and chat for a few moments. It's one of those days when I have a list of little things to take care of before I tackle the big things. But I won't be here the next two Fridays, having places to go, things to do, and people to see, so I want to say hi to everyone.

The friend I mentioned last week who was so ill is doing better. Many thanks for y'all's good wishes. And September is coming, with cooler temperatures (I hope!) and rain (I pray!) So we're good.

Oooh, yuck. I'm glad you have a nice well-sealed house to hide in! And I do hope the trucks stop rolling for the weekend.

Peaches! That's the big thing my youngest misses most about a trip we took to Georgia years ago: the peach milkshakes! So how many different kinds of recipes do they make with all that fruit, and do they offer free samples of all of them?

Speaking of my youngest, she's home for a week before heading back to her senior year in college. We've got some things planned in between all her visits with friends, and she has a couple of "gigs"; tomorrow she'll be playing folk music at, of all things, a hot dog stand (they offer music while you munch!) [laugh]

out in the environment! They didn't haul last weekend because we got 2.5 inches of rain on Saturday and 1.5 inches of rain on Sunday. Usually they haul on Saturdays. We are hoping for a big rain after they are done to wash off the road. They are sloppy!

Well, we should have a nice weekend. It is my 66th birthday on Sunday and I am being taken out for breakfast and to buy *just slice and eat* for lunch and supper. The grocery store near us has a restaurant in it that is good, so it is handy for all our needs!

I've lost 11.5 pounds in the last 5 weeks. Yay me! I have 9 pounds to lose before I drop out of the obese category and am merely overweight. That's goal #1. I'm still 44 pounds away from being in my healthy weight range, but I get ahead of myself. I've had some diet hurdles and some grumpy days in the past couple of weeks, but still hanging in there.

Other than that, I'm just busy. Busy with work, busy with family, busy with Dragon*Con preparations and weddings. Too much to do!

Does the bar have any raspberry iced tea today? Happy Friday, everyone!
 
That stuff smells really bad. The other way on our road, someone has horses and mules and I wouldn't mind an offer of straight from the animal and not as a liquid that has been fermented in a large pit for 6 months!

We don't usually smell it in the house. We try to go in and out the back hoping it isn't as bad behind the house. Down at the garage, though, it collects and gets a bit thick!
 
In my previous consulting life I worked a lot with dairy bottlers & distributors. Any spoiled, spilled or out of code product, including milk, juice, cottage cheese, etc, went into what they called the 'slop tank' which sits outside (covered) in ambient temps which, at some of the companies in S. Texas, can reach well over 100 degrees during the day. About 2x week, a tanker would come and empty it and take it to, you guessed it, pig farms. Believe me, I avoided the slop tank at all costs on any day, but especially when the tanker was there to empty it! [shocked]

Now on to more pleasant topics: pours an ice cold ginger beer and raspberry iced tea. Enjoy the weekend! [:)]

Rain, sigh. We had a bit last Saturday, and the high was only 84---what a delightful day. But we're back in the broiler now.

Happy birthday! My mom's birthday is tomorrow---almost the same as yours. Enjoy! [:)]

What are you preparing for DragonCon?
 
I happen to like okra - especially deep fried, but I haven't convinced BG to try it yet. He shies away from most southern 'delicacies' ever since I made him try grits (which I love), lol. [laugh]

We got half an inch of rain here at Bag End, and some areas west of us, which were in desperate need, got a lot more. But it wasn't enough to even begin to refill the lakes and aquifers, more of a day off than a solution. And there's no more in the forecast, unfortunately.

We hate to be hoping for a hurricane in the Gulf, but *whispers* we are.
 
I wonder if it is hot enough here for okra. OhioHobbit likes it -- me not so much -- but being a northener, I haven't eaten well-prepared okra.
