The ladies room is essentially a Harry Potter room. There are 2 quotes on the walls in there:
--It does not do to dwell in dreams and forget to live.
--It is not our abilities that show who we truly are..it is our choices.
Both from the mouth of another great wizard
And, of course, the Mirror of Erised!

There is another quote in the men's room (alas, also not from LOTR) but from another classic film:
--No man is a failure who has friends

I hope you all know where that one is from! [:)]
 
progress on this project. That does look fine on the door. The artwork that is. I am not knowledgeable in the language department[:|].

Now that is perfection there on the wall. Just the thing for 'commodal' repose, delving the deeper matters[laugh]. Probably where the best intuitions originate.

I keep thinking about that quote in the men's room, and wondering if I should put it up it in our bathroom, as my son's been known to spend too long in there... [laugh]!

Please keep these updates coming! What were the special things you have planned for the main part of the shop?
 
Of course, THAT floor is stone and my floor is going to be pine. Just HOW I am going to get that pattern onto the floor is still a mystery. Any suggestions? I do have the projector (that I used for the movie quotes) but I would have to break the pattern into very many tiny little bits and I'm afraid they would all get badly misaligned in a very short while. And the projector is not built to project downwards. Well, I'll figure SOMETHING out. [unsure]
 
After all your hard work, I was thinking it would be cute to have a little quiz sheet for your guests with little give-aways for all the details they find, and/or for knowing or guessing where they come from.

I've been lurking and following along on your progress but I just wanted to say, thanks for sharing the photos and that I also am wishing you the best on making this beautiful dream into an even more beautiful reality. I think we Northeastern TORnsibs will just have to swing by up your way once you're open for business! At the very least I am trying to drum up business for you already [:)] - I have a friend who has a cabin up in those mountains and I've been telling her about your new place. She's in the area during the summers so I know she'll stop in. Just be sure to let us know exactly (address, directions) where you are when you do open up!

Remind me MM, where is your shop? As for getting the image on the floor, do you want it there permanently? If so, could you paint the pine? Or burn the image into the wood? I don't know how easy that would be on a floor - is the pine already laid or is in planks waiting to be laid (in which case it would be easier)?

Copying Pictures Using a Grid

Because the math/logic part of my brain is just a little stronger than the intuitive/creative side, I've been using grids for a long time to get what I want when I draw. With the symmetry and the curved lines, it won't be a snap to get it as precise as possible, but I think you could do. And, in the interest of brainstorming, perhaps there is some way a sign company could enlarge a computer drawing onto a large sheet of 'something' that could be used for tracing. I have no idea of the cost but sometimes paying a little more to save you tons of hassle can be worth it. But it also sounds like you are enjoying the process and the challenge of sitting on the floor sketching out the pattern from a grid might appeal to you.

You should definitely write up the process you used to do this. You could use that as 'articles' to draw attention to the establishment... if you wish attention. (Not sure if you are worried about the Tolkien Estate focusing their attention on you.)

My place is in the Adirondacks, about an hour NW of Lake George in a small town called Indian Lake.
Yes, I plan for the pattern to be permanent and I was intending to paint it onto the floor. Once I asked a flooring expert, however, I learned the whole process is going to be more complex than I ever could have anticipated -- sanding, conditioning the wood, staining, distressing (I want the floor to look old), painting, then several coats of poly -- I'm sure I've forgotten a step or two!
How to get the pattern onto the floor. Magpie, I checked out the link you provided and I will work on that approach for a bit. Perhaps breaking it into tiny bits and going to Staples and enlarging each bit by 300%? Several times? I DID try to contact a large format copying place -- perhaps they can make several 42" wide strips to piece together to use as a template. I will more aggressively follow up this idea. The prospect of using the projector is too daunting -- I would have to rig up some crazy contraption using a huge ladder and lots of tape to get the projector to face downwards, which it isn't designed for. Then I'd have to keep moving the giant ladder around by myself! Geez, I have to find a better way!
Thanks all for your encouragement and helpful suggestions. I really could use some of you folks to spread the word about my cabins -- I have had no rentals and have no reservations yet for the summer. Without some money coming in soon, I'm afraid I will not be able to keep going much longer. Sorry to put a damper on things, but I am in a sorry financial state and I struggle to keep from despair. So, tell your friends!
 
the surface of the flet where the Fellowship meets Celeborn and Galadriel. There' are several pulled-back shots of them standing on the flet and there are leaves lying on the floor's surface (Rivendell has leaves scattered throughout the floor, too). You could paint leaves here and there on the floor or, if you're thinking of a transparent surface, take actual leaves and seal them onto the surface. Do the same thing to match some of the table/bench surfaces.
