Back in the summer of 2001, I followed a Tolkien virgin on her journey through LotR. (She kept saying "Nothing bad better happen to Bill the Pony.") After finishing the books, she started a cartoon called "Waiting for Frodo", about fans looking forward to the upcoming movies. Now she has one called Waiting for Bilbo
 
Though she had notified TORn that she was starting up her comic for the Hobbit movies again:Article here

I thought there might've been a thread on it too, but I may be mistaken.

Not sure if you've heard, but WFB is going to be a regular feature on TORN! We're just waiting for things to be set up after the holidays, and then we'll be posting comics here instead of on my server.

I'm so glad you're here. I was Karen back in the days of our little fellowship. I migrated here soon afterward. You're going to love this place! And WFB is so perfect :-D
 
the old discussion when you were reading LotR for the first time? I'm not sure I can find it. I've been trying to remember whether it was the summer of 2000 or 2001.
 
I had actually saved a lot of those posts as files on my computer, but that computer crashed and I lost them. It was such a treasure seeing your very first impressions. I remember the panic when someone called Arwen the Queen of Gondor and then someone else had to make a frantic phone call to tell you not to read that post. The Internet was pretty young in those days. :-D
 
Ha, I remember that! It was my friend Allison Durno who called me to warn me about the spoilers; I ended up giving her admin privileges so she could moderate comments if needed.

I'm indebted to Allison for convincing me to give reading LOTR one last shot.

Heh.

But seriously, I'm totally grateful. I look back at how I drew Waiting For Frodo (my very first webcomic) and cringe. I'm still not expert but wow, were some of those drawings bad.

BUT the TORN community cut through my crude art and saw into the heart of my comics: the characters and their interaction. And that really taught me a valuable lesson that I've carried through to now, when I'm actually starting to do illustration professionally in the children's book publishing industry-- the technique/art isn't nearly as important as the emotion/character(s).

I'll always be grateful to the TORN community for that lesson.

I always thought your drawings were great, because they were True :-)

BTW, I started a new thread on Main. Since TOrn doesn't 'bump" threads, no one will see this one but us.
