Volcano on Iceland stops air-traffic - again!

So far only Iceland has blocked all airflights but more countries will probably follow soon. They have also been forced to alter certain flying routes especially long flights like over the atlantic... so more problems will probably follow soon.

Iceland and their damn volcanos! [cool]

they don't expect to have to do a lot of stopping of air-traffic because of the kind of eruption this is. Something to do with big particles coming out (which fall to the ground faster and don't hang around in the air, causing engine damage.)

I've seen some impressive pictures of it. Dangerous, but impressive.[:)]

Is anyone doing anything for those who are stuck? Any chance they could get her on a flight going a different route?

10 million travelers were stranded in Europe according to Aftonbladet. I'm checking the live-update and they are saying it could get worse than that - all depending on the next few hours with the wind and all.

Here in the Nort West of England we've had very, very strong winds for the last few days.Today, my sister was literally picked up off her feet by the wind and thrown forward a few feet but she didn't fall, thankfully.Hopefully that same strong wind will blow the ash away from the UK & Europe, but Scotland has already cancelled 36 flights from one of its airports for tomorrow morning.I don't think any flights from London have been cancelled it's just been announced that Iceland is reopening its main airport at 8pm tonight so there could be hope for the resumption of flights and travel plans.

she's flying from London through Keflavik, so I don't think she got out today, but I haven't heard anything. I put her in contact with Eledhwen (they've met before) just in case.

It's nothing to get too anxious about..not yet anyway. The only major drawback is cancellation flights. Lets consider the tornadoes sweeping the Mid West of America where towns are virtually wiped off the face of the map and the fatality rate rising.

Pray these storms will stop! [unsure]

I live in central Indiana, so not quite in Tornado Alley, but we have our share of them, too. They are horrific, and those of us without a basement, particularly , feel very vulnerable.
