Two Towers at Wolftrap

Tavari

The Shire
I was just wondering if anyone else went to the showing of TTT at Wolftrap last night. I thought that the orchestra was amazing and really brought out the amazing score. I was really able to hear the bits where in the film the music is lower and it was just wonderful. I also thought that one thing that they did that was smart was that they had subtitles for the film so that even if you weren't listening to the dialogue, you could still pay attention to the movie. Overall, I was really impressed, as was everyone I went with.

Yes, I was there (Saturday night). It was amazing - I can't wait till next year to see if they'll do The Return of the King. Did you go to the pre-concert talk?

Seeing the movie with the orchestra is indeed amazing. I saw their Fellowship performance last year, too.

Frankly I thought that the audience Saturday was a bit.. well, fangirly. Overly cheering at Legolas, etc. Still, great time and I can't wait to see ROTK (hopefully next year!).

She talked about the score - the various themes that run through the movies - and how they interplay with the action. She's describe a scene and then play the music and pointed out the themes. She also pointed out the different instruments that Shore used and told us where to look for them on the stage. She's also a Tolkien fan and loved the movies. (I hate to keep saying "she" but I don't remember her name!) Interestingly, she's from WETA, the radio station here in DC, and she said that when the New Zealand Weta was asking for people with various Tolkien related expertise, they were getting a lot of calls, because nobody here at the time knew any other WETA except the radio station.
